Dear members of the IYRP International Support Group

As the time draws closer to the Internaiotnal Year of Rangelands and
Pastoralists (IYRP 2026), formal processes are underway to prepare for and
implement the IYRP. This process is led by the FAO, who have been formally
tasked with implementing the International Year. One of their first stasks
was to establish the FAO IYRP secretariat, which consists of FAO
representatives. Furthermore, the FAO now needs to establish the formal
IYRP steering committee, which will consist of 14 members (7 states and 7
non-state actors). It is envisioned that each of the seven FAO regions will
be represented by a state and the seven non-state actors will represent the
various sectors that support rangelands and pastoralists.

The IYRP Global Alliance (GA) has agreed to nominate some of its partners
to represent the 7 non-state actors on the FAO IYRP steering committee.
This will be done through a (self)nomination process, and transparent and
democratic voting systems if we receive more than the required number of
insitutions to represent a certain sector.

The attached document outlines the process in greater detail.

It is important to note that these will just be the IYRP GA nominees and
the FAO secretariat reserves the right to select the final seven
members representing the non-state actors. Other nominations not via the
IYRP GA will also be considered, but that has to be liaised directly with
the FAO.

To confirm their (self-)nomination, candidates must send an email to the
Global Secretariat of the IYRP Global Alliance at
globalsecretariat at iyrp.groups.io by *17 March 2025*, including:

   1. A brief biography outlining their background and relevant experience.
   2. A written statement explaining:
      - What they and their affiliated institution/network/community would
      bring to the Steering Committee
      - How their participation would contribute to the goals of IYRP 2026
      - The statement must be signed by the nominee and endorsed by their
      affiliated institution/network/community

Kind regards
Igshaan Samuels
