Dear all,

What’s the relevance of the growing agroecological pastoralist movements in Europe to pastoralists in the Global South? What parallels exist, and how might pastoralists learn from and support each other?

Some members of the Regional IYRP Support Group in Europe (https://www.iyrp.info/europe <https://www.iyrp.info/europe>) are or have been involved in such pastoral schools, where (mainly) young people who do not come from traditional pastoralist families can learn the art of herding as an agroecological approach to using and maintaining natural pastures.

IIED-MISEREOR invite you to join a short webinar on the future of pastoralism in Europe through the lens of European pastoral schools and pastoralist associations.

What to expect:
Alessandro Dessi (Italy) will provide some background on the Italian experience of collective action within the APPIA pastoralism network, together with some of the history of the Shepherding School movement.
This will be followed by a conversation with Francisco de Asis Ruiz Morales (Spain), who will share insights from a school in Andalusia in Southern Spain.
Last but not least. we aim for a lively and informative discussion with pastoralists from across the globe.

Date: Tuesday 25 February 2025

Time: 11:00 CET
