[IYRPsupportgroup] Introducing new volunteer in global communications for IYRP2026

Dear all,

We are very pleased to announce that we have a new volunteer to help with the global communications work for the IYRP2026. 

His name is Abdul Wahid Khan; he prefers to be called Wahid. He is a final-year PhD candidate in the School of Geography and the Environment at the University of Oxford. His research focusses on pastoralist commons in Chitral, Pakistan. He also did his Master's degree there; his thesis looked at the changing pastoralist livelihood in Yarkhoon, Chitral. Wahid is one of the founders of Oxford University Collective for Pastoralist and Nomadic Peoples. He has worked with Oxford Net Zero, the Institute of Ismaili Studies, the Oxford Vice-Chancellor's Colloquium on Climate and other organisations on issues around climate change, sustainability and carbon net zero. He is also the founder of Chitral Heritage and Environmental Protection Society (CHEPS) youth wing and Chitral Academics Circle. He has been advocating for pastoralists through his academic and lobbying work and has spoken in many universities and organisations in Australia, Germany, UK and Pakistan.

Wahid will start his activities with the IYRP Global Secretariat by focussing on helping the IYRP Working Groups share their key messages via social media.

We welcome Wahid’s reinforcement in the IYRP communications work at global level, which is all being done thus far on a voluntary basis.
