主题: [IYRPsupportgroup] Mail to IYRP list asking about interest to join regional support groups for IYRP
Dear all,
FYI this mail and attachment is what we have sent out to the IYRP mailing list, which is made up of people who notified Jim four years ago that they were interested in being kept updated about the IYRP plus people who sent letters of support or commitment to the Mongolian proposal for an IYRP and people who sent materials, including logos, for the IYRP promotional website (www.iyrp.info).
Most of you have already responded to Jim as to whether or not you want to be in one or more of the regional groups, but if there are any of you who have not expressed interest thus far but would indeed like to be active in one or more regional groups, then please let me know. I am revising the regional lists and the IYRP mailing list as feedback comes in (including quite a few bounces).
This is turning out to be a very time-consuming activity, and Barbara and I will be very glad when the mailing lists are “finalised”. Barbara has posted all the information about the regional groups in the five languages we have thus far on the archival website (https://globalrangelands.org/international-year-rangelands-and-pastoralists-initiative) under a new drop-down menu for “Regional IYRP Support Groups”.
Cheers,
Ann

Dear all,
In the distant or recent past, you showed interest in the campaign for an International Year of Rangelands & Pastoralists (IYRP). In case you have not heard already: the Mongolian Government’s proposal for an IYRP in 2026 was endorsed in early October by the Committee on Agriculture (COAG) of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). See https://www.iyrp.info/un-process for a press release about this in several languages.
The campaign was supported by a very strong and worldwide network of more than 150 civil society, pastoralist and public- and private-sector organizations and more than 50 governments. This network could be leveraged even more strongly in the run-up to the UN General Assembly in September 2021 (when the decision will be made on final approval of the IYRP) by creating regional nodes of communication and cooperation, supported by the IYRP International Support Group (ISG), FAO and others at global level, and by the Government of Mongolia, the Mongolian National Support Group (NSG) and others at regional and national levels.
Attached you will find a preparatory plan proposed by the ISG for such “Regional IYRP Support Groups” (RISGs) in English, Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish. A Chinese version is still in the making. These will all be posted on the archival IYRP website (https://globalrangelands.org/international-year-rangelands-and-pastoralists-initiative).
In this proposed plan, you will see that the RISGs would not only activate support from all countries and regions of the world for the IYRP proposal that will be considered by the UN General Assembly in September 2021; they would also be planning activities that will take place prior to and during the Year.
Since you have shown interest in this effort, we would like to invite you to participate in one or more of the regional groups. Please let us know in which regional group(s) you would like to be active.
However, if you have “moved on” and would like us to delete your address from this IYRP mailing list, please let us know. Also, because some people are in the list with more than one address, please indicate which address(es) you want to retain in the list.
This is an exciting time after many years of working toward this goal, and we certainly would welcome you to join with us as we move forward.
Cheers!
IYRP Communications Team on behalf of Jim O’Rourke and Maryam Niamir, co-chairs of the ISG
