Many thanks to you, Barbara, and to Sheila for making the minutes of the meeting!
Under ACTION 2, you ask for suggestions on structure of the International Support Group (ISG). I would like to make the following suggestion:
The ISG has become quite big, and that is good because we need as many active people and organisations as possible around the world to promote and support the initiative to have an International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP). The most important task at this point in time is to prepare the proposal/resolution for the IYRP. For this, we need a taskforce that is smaller than the entire ISG, and the taskforce members need to collaborate in very intensive communication with each other. As I understand that the Government of Mongolia will be submitting the resolution, it would be most appropriate if a Mongolian member of the ISG would lead this taskforce. During our conference call, Hijaba was asked about his willingness to take the lead, and he agreed. However, the term “Resolution Taskforce” was not explicitly mentioned; it was all still a bit vague, as we wanted to get suggestions also from others who could not join the call, especially ISG members from Ethiopia and Kenya.
In my view, the "Resolution Taskforce” should be composed not only of Mongolians but also of people from other countries who are most active in trying to get buy-in from their governments (e.g. in Ethiopia and Kenya), and the taskforce should develop together not only the resolution itself but also the strategy for getting buy-in from these other governments. The membership of the taskforce would overlap with the ISG membership but would hopefully include more people from government organisations than we currently have in the ISG.
The other members of the ISG would support this smaller “Resolution Taskforce" when and if requested.
I throw this out into the group now to see what other ISG members think or whether there are other suggestions regarding structure and leadership.
Cheers,
Ann

It was a productive and most useful discussion that resulted in the Action items listed below. There have been a number of follow-up discussions since the call that will be reported on soon as well.

> ACTION 4: Mongolia’s proposed resolution and background documentation to be submitted to COAG by August 2019. ISG to provide all support as needed.
> ACTION 5: Maryam will report back to the smaller group working on UNEA (Fiona, Jon, Kathrine, Ernest, Hijaba, Tungaa, Dana) and request that they finalize the concept note and other preparations. The concept note will then be shared with the ISG so that members can contact country representatives to encourage them to participate at the Breakfast.
