An op-ed commentary by IYRP Global Alliance co-chair Igshaan Samuels entitled "We must prioritize rangeland conservation for planetary health and biodiversity” was posted on Mongabay during the UNCCD COP16:

The key ideas expressed are:
Rangelands, despite their size and significance, have been historically under-appreciated in global conservation and climate discussions..
They cover more than 79 million sq.km of grasslands, savannas, deserts, shrublands, and tundra globally. But they are more than just expansive open landscapes – rangelands are central to global economies, ecosystems, and cultures.
Ahead of the IYRP in 2026, governments and conservationists have an opportunity to lay groundwork to ensure their health for wildlife habitat and their use by pastoralists is sustainable.
