[IYRP General List] UNCCD report on Rangelands and Pastoralism

Dear IYRP Supporters

The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has just
released a significant and far reaching report on rangelands and
pastoralism. It is the first time its "Global Land Outlook" series has been
dedicated to rangelands. The report calls for a shift in thinking about
rangelands and pastoralism, stopping conversion of rangelands to other
uses, and supporting pastoralists to manage, restore and sustain their
rangelands.  This Report will be considered and adopted by Governments at
the upcoming UNCCD Conference of Parties in Saudi Arabia in December 2024.

The conclusions of the report are supported by the findings of the IYRP
Working Group on Land Degradation Neutrality, which released its report a
few weeks ago. The IYRP asks countries to consider 8 recommendations, among
which are a) stop conversion of rangelands, b) incorporate equitably the
needs of pastoralists into their policies and legislature; and c) increase
funding for restoring and protecting rangelands, including through the  Land
Degradation Neutrality Fund
