Dear all,
In support of the International Year of Rangelands & Pastoralists (IYRP) in 2026, the Coalition of European Lobbies for Eastern African Pastoralism (CELEP www.celep.info <http://www.celep.info/>) is collaborating with the Global Alliance for the IYRP (www.iyrp.info <http://www.iyrp.info/>) in collecting and curating films on pastoralism around the world. Films shown in the Perspectives on Pastoralism Film Festivals (in Germany in 2019, in Czechia in 2022 and in Austria in 2024) can be found on the film-festival website (https://www.pastoralistfilmfestival.com <https://www.pastoralistfilmfestival.com/>).
A special theme in the call for the 3rd edition of films was “Camelid pastoralism”, intended primarily as part of the build-up to the IYRP2026 but also for the International Year of Camelids (IYC2024). Some members of the IYRP Alliance joined the CELEP film-festival team to assess the entries and selected the top 17 films for showing at events highlighting camelids for the IYC in 2024/25 and the IYRP2026. A one-pager with information about the films on camelid pastoralism is attached; it includes the link to the list of selected films posted on the IYRP website.
Another special theme was “Pastoralist women and girls”. Members of the IYRP Working Group on Pastoralism & Gender assessed the films submitted for this theme and selected their top 32. A one-pager with information about the films on pastoralist women & girls is also attached; it includes the link to the list of selected films posted on the IYRP website.
If any of you are interested in organising screenings of films on pastoralism – either for a whole day or evening session or one or two films as part of a side event, webinar, seminar or the like, you can contact us (organisers of CELEP's Perspectives on Pastoralism Film Festival) for recommendations of and links to relevant films. In addition to the above-mentioned themes, we have many more films on other themes, e.g on pastoralism and biodiversity conservation. Sharing these films can help to show people worldwide how pastoralist communities contribute to culture, economy and environment.
Let me take this opportunity also to wish you all the best in the New Year 2025 (at least according to the Gregorian calendar) – the final year of preparations for the IYRP2026.
Cheers,
Ann

This film festival is an event organised by CELEP in the name of the IYRP2026 and celebrating the International Year of Camelids 2024.

We have a list of top films about camelid pastoralism and another list of top films on pastoralist women & girls, which we can share with anyone who asks for them. We are currently selecting top films on pastoralism and biodiversity / nature conservation.
