[Iyrp-gcg] Global Action Plan of the IYRP Global Alliance

Dear Igshaan, all,

Please find some input to the attached global action plan.  A few comments also in the attached:

  *   I would broaden out the contribution/role of UNCCD – I think we have many entry points to work with them and not only the Mongolia COP.
  *   Wondering to what degree you want all regional events in here or not – I noticed Ken put in a lot from East/Southern Africa but that is the only region to add their activities….
  *   I have clarified and added some activities/outputs that will be supported through the STELARR project.

Also I have been having some discussions on events that ILRI has potential to get involved in:

  1.  Taking forward a UNFSS coalition (originally called game-changing solution) on “pastoralism as a sustainable food system” including an event at the UNFSS stocktake in Addis Ababa in July. Will send some more information on this separately and how people can get involved.
  2.  The Global Landscapes Forum are considering having a GLF Rangelands next year (as they are doing GLF Forests this year). I suggested this to them and they are keen. We will confirm in next few weeks.

Finally I thought we had a gap in the action plan for processes and events around “appropriate investment” in rangelands and pastoralists areas – this can be i)  donor/public investment through development projects (also an opportunity to get NGOs working in pastoralist areas involved such as Mercycorps and CARE), ii) private sector investment which includes incentives such as the establishment of the Rangelands Stewardship Council and global rangelands standard, and iii) pastoralists’ investments and building pastoralist capacities on this. I think there several different activities and processes that are, will and/or can be held over 2025/6.   So I have suggested a 5th strategy/set of activities, with startings of some activities.

Dear GCG members

Recently, we asked members to include possible activities that they are planning and/or could possibly still be organised in 2025 and 2026 that will aid in the celebration of the IYRP. We circulated an Excel document of actions and extracted that information into a narrative version (attached) for easier reading and understanding.  We dont view this as the final list of actions the GA are planning for 2025 and 2026, but we will use this as a guide to plan around and invest our energy and resources into. This excludes all the activities that will occur at national and local levels.

We needed this document as the Govt. of Mongolia wants to assess and determine what and how they can support the Global Action Plan. We hope that it will also be of value to the FAO IYRP International Steering Committee when they do their planning.

Note that the Global Alliance doesn't have the funding to implement these activities but will support those who have proposed to host these activities or implement these actions.


As mentioned, we will keep the Global Action Plan Excel document as a living document to keep track of proposed activities.

If there is anything major we missed or that only arose recently, please let us know so that we include it. General comments are also welcome.
