Forwarding for David Ebert, Chief AI and Data Science Officer, ORP, as there are components of the Genesis Mission that are relevant to CALES research.
Dear Colleagues,
The forthcoming Genesis Mission from the U.S. Department of Energy represents a significant federal investment opportunity. As with past DOE initiatives, early engagement and relationship-building with laboratory staff will position our faculty to better understand priority problems, align expertise, and develop competitive collaborations.
To coordinate the U of A's approach, we are initiating a series of structured activities designed to:
* Inform faculty about Genesis and related DOE priorities
* Surface campus research capabilities and strengths
* Align those strengths with laboratory and mission needs
* Catalyze early partnerships and collaborative teams
Working Researcher Sessions
Two on-campus working sessions will be held:
* February 16, 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. RSVP by Feb 12, RSVP here<https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5jr65HJTLe9wUrs>
* February 20, 1:30 p.m. -3:30 p.m. RSVP by Feb 12, RSVP here<https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_czFC5HlI8ekBOmy>
Each session will focus on three major Genesis-aligned areas:
* Energy (Fusion, Grids, Nuclear)
* National Security
* AI Foundational Technologies
The sessions will include:
* A 30-minute informational overview of the Genesis mission, funding structure, and laboratory engagement model
* A 60-minute facilitated working session to develop and refine one-page research summaries
These one-page summaries will be used to communicate the university's capabilities to relevant national laboratory representatives as our leadership engages with them.
Upcoming Laboratory Engagements
Several additional activities will support continued engagement and relationship development:
* February 26-27: Two-day Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Days, featuring scheduled talks by university and laboratory researchers and structured networking opportunities
Strategic Alignment
The university remains committed to its role as a national and global research leader in areas including critical minerals, health, fusion, responsible artificial intelligence, space, and the environment. These activities are intended to position our research community effectively within the Genesis framework and to support sustained partnerships with national laboratories.
Additional details regarding session logistics, participation, and submission guidelines will be shared shortly. We encourage Associate Deans of Research and relevant staff to share this information with faculty who may be well aligned with the Genesis mission areas and to please attend the February 9th Information Session.
