Good morning CALES faculty,
We are seeking nominations for the Assistant Dean for Graduate Education. This position reports to the CALES Associate Dean for Career and Academic Services and provides leadership and oversight for MS and PhD programs across the college. If a college-level leadership role interests you—and you’re passionate about strengthening graduate education—please consider applying. Self-nominations are welcome.

Role Overview
While program administration resides within individual units, college-level coordination ensures alignment with CALES’ mission and goals. The Assistant Dean will:
* Provide vision and strategic guidance to enhance recruitment, training, and student success in CALES MS/PhD programs.
* Oversee allocation of CALES resources that support graduate education.
* Partner with programs to secure new funding (e.g., fellowships, training grants).
* Help oversee shared graduate coordinator positions.
* Serve as the CALES liaison to the Graduate College and University Administration (including service as the CALES representative on the Graduate-College Academic Administrators Council (G-CAAC)).
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Appointment & Reporting
* Appointment: 0.25 FTE administrative role with an appropriate stipend.
* The 0.25 FTE will substitute for a corresponding portion of the successful candidate’s current FTE. The remaining 0.75 FTE distribution will be determined in consultation with the academic unit head.
* The Assistant Dean will work closely with the CALES Associate Dean for Career and Academic Services, the Associate Dean for Research, academic unit heads, graduate coordinators/directors of graduate studies, and the ALVSCE Division Business Services team.
Minimum Qualifications
* PhD in a CALES-related field.
* Tenured Associate or Full Professor rank.
* Demonstrated success in research with an active program.
* Strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
* Administrative experience within a university unit (e.g., faculty hiring, budgeting, academic assessment, strategic planning).
* Familiarity with federal research funding processes.
