[Faculty] Reminder: 2023 CUES Distinguished Fellowships - CALS internal nomination and submission process

Everyone,

Back in late January the UA Center for University Education Scholarship (CUES) announced a call for nominations for the 2023 CUES Distinguished Fellowship awards.  For your convenience, I've included that announcement below.  Each academic college on campus is allowed to make up to two nominations per year.

This year's deadline for submission to the Provost's office is April 3.  Working backward, faculty who wish to submit an application for a CUES fellowship need to gather all of the required materials, including required support letters, and submit them for the Dean's review no later than Monday, March 27.  This will allow us time to screen the submissions, select up to two as this year's CALS submissions, and write the Dean's letter of support.

Note that this year, instead of requiring separate letters of support from both the applicant's department head and the college dean, these letters can be combined into a single letter over both the unit head's and dean's signature.  Accordingly, applicants should submit a draft cover letter with space for both the department head and dean's signature.  The letter will likely go through an iterative editing process to incorporate the dean's comments before signatures are finally applied.

2023 CUES Distinguished Fellowships
CUES Distinguished Fellowships aim to acknowledge and advance faculty scholarship and innovation in university education.

Selection as a Fellow requires a competitive project and study proposal the nominee will conduct over the funding period. Nominees’ proposals must contribute to educational scholarship and address innovation, and/or grand challenges in university education aligned with the CUES mission<https://arizona.us17.list-manage.com/track/click?u=582a73984800987ae88017de4&id=5a8afdb8e4&e=61e09ef93d>.

Funding & Award
Awardees each receive the title of CUES Distinguished Fellow and a grant of up to $20,000 annually for up to three years. The title of CUES Distinguished Fellow remains in perpetuity.

Nomination Deadline
Distinguished Fellowship candidates are nominated by their college.  College nominations are due by April 3, 2023. Each college may nominate up to two fellows per cycle. Colleges are encouraged to hold internal competitions to select nominees.

Eligibility

  *   Affiliation.  Nominees must be University of Arizona faculty employees who are tenured, tenure-track, continuing-status, continuing-status track, or career-track, as listed in the UArizona system.
  *   Qualifications.  Nominees will have demonstrated excellence in and commitment to raising the value and quality of the learning experience at UArizona, with particular focus on educational scholarship, educational innovation, or educational grand challenges.  Nominees will also demonstrate promise to advance the scholarship of teaching and learning through their proposed project and lead broader engagement activities.
