Good afternoon,
It's not too early to begin thinking about the next (2023-24) promotion cycle!
If you are facing a mandatory (3- or 6-year) or considering an optional (full rank, career-track) promotion next year, the faculty development communities may be helpful for working with your peers to develop excellent promotion dossiers!
Please note that the email below requests signups of both promotion candidates AND peer mentors. The deadline for signing up for this program is tomorrow, September 21.

Dear Faculty Leads, Department Heads, and Deans,

It is our pleasure to let you know you that Faculty Affairs is continuing the Faculty Development Communities for Promotion (FDCP) program for a third year. We have received very positive feedback from faculty about this program. This is a peer mentoring program which creates small groups of four to five faculty of the same rank and connects them with a senior faculty member as a mentor to discuss and plan for the promotion process. This program is available for faculty (tenure-track, career-track, and continuing status) at the University of Arizona.

Please remind your faculty about this opportunity and encourage them to participate either as a peer mentor or a senior mentor by filling out this form<https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0NSdJYSvEhKIkF8> by Wednesday, September 21st.

FDCP communities will meet on a weekly/bi-weekly basis to support and help each other achieve their strategic goals for the year. A senior mentor for the group will meet with the group once a month. Senior mentors are faculty who have participated on promotion and tenure review committees. These individuals have been chosen because they prioritize values of excellence, honesty, trustworthiness, inclusivity, and compassion. They are available to help early career faculty discuss and navigate their professional development while on the pathway to promotion. It is our hope that these groups will help early career faculty explore their individual objectives, hopes, and aspirations as well as to reflect on their common challenges, concerns and solutions about promotion and tenure.

For any additional information please contact Dr. Celeste Atkins, Assistant Director, MENTOR Institute at catkins at arizona.edu<mailto:catkins at arizona.edu>. We hope you are well and wish you a wonderful 2022-23 academic year.

Have a great day,

Andrea Romero Ph.D., Vice Provost, Faculty Affairs

Frans Tax Ph.D., Faculty Director, MENTOR Institute, Associate Dean, Student Affairs, Diversity & Inclusion, Grad College

Celeste Atkins Ph.D., Assistant Director, MENTOR Institute
