Good morning everyone,

I, like many of you, was profoundly shocked and saddened to learn that the victim of yesterday's shooting was Dr. Tom Meixner. Tom was a valued colleague, a talented mentor, and a friend to so many across and beyond campus. I know that you all join me in extending condolences to his family. Tom was part of the search-and-hiring team that brought me to the University of Arizona in 2011, and I will always be grateful for that.

There is nothing in life that prepares us for tragedies such as this. By now, you have received many emails with information on counseling available on campus (also pasted below). Please do not hesitate to reach out to those resources. There is nothing shameful about needing someone to talk to.
