[Faculty] Spring 2021 Teaching

Everyone,

Happy New Year!   I hope you all had a restful holiday and much-deserved downtime.   Now, here we are back and getting ready to launch for spring semester.   I have two items for you this afternoon.

First, if you have the opportunity, please join the President Robbins Re-entry briefing tomorrow morning (Tuesday) at 10:00am.   I expect that he will let us know of the opening day course modalities and required testing protocols for students coming to campus for in-person classes.   The last word we had before break was that they intended to start the semester in Stage Two (in-person classes with up to 50 people present).  However, given the COVID health statistics prevailing in Arizona and surrounding states, it will not surprise me if we begin the semester in a more restricted mode.   It is all speculation at this point, but I fully expect an announcement tomorrow morning.  Of course, we will summarize the information and get it out to all CALS faculty and staff after the briefing, so if you can't attend you can look forward to an update soon after.

Secondly, I received this afternoon the attached memo from Gail Burd and Lisa Elfring with some interesting observations and suggestions for addressing student concerns with online classes last Fall.   If you are teaching online this semester, please give these a close and thoughtful read.
