“VBC 2020 provides an opportunity for faculty, administrators, staff, academic and community partners, and policy-makers to share individual and collaborative investigations, either interdisciplinary or cross-disciplinary, in local, national and international contexts, and to showcase models of UR activities at all types of higher education institutions. The overall goals of the conference are to highlight the value of UR and for participants – from two- and four- year colleges, universities and communities - to learn from each other to broaden the opportunities for undergraduates to participate in collaborative scholarly work and creative activities. "

This year’s themes are:

  * Assessment in UR - focusing on all types of assessment in UR on students, faculty, curriculum, and institutions.
  * Diversity and Inclusion in UR – focusing on offering UR to a wider audience of undergraduates, faculty, and institutions to increase the diversity of participants, particularly from underrepresented groups and institutions.
  * Integrating and Building UR into Curriculum and Coursework - focusing on building a curriculum that is both research-based and supports UR as an outcome of the curriculum
  * New Models and Settings for UR - focusing on expanding undergraduate research opportunities between higher education institutions, including community colleges and international institutions and beyond academic institutions to research collaborations with business and non-profit organizations.
  * Other Topics - focusing on other important aspects of undergraduate research that do not fall into the above four themes/tracks.

11 DAYS UNTIL #VBC2020

The countdown has begun, and with that, we are anxious to get you ready for an awesome, virtual experience starting Monday, June 29 – Wednesday, July 1, 2020. Here are a few things you should know as you prepare for VBC 2020.

5 Tips on How to Boost Your Virtual Conference Experience

[Description of News Story Image]<http://cur.informz.net/z/cjUucD9taT0yOTk5MDY5JnA9MSZ1PTM4MjUxODA2OCZsaT0yNDM2NDExMQ/index.html>

Tips:

  1. Prioritize your time. Treat this virtual experience as you would any in-person conference with respect to your calendar and task load. Be truly present. Don’t be afraid to put an out of office on your email or block time out on your calendar for your colleagues to know when you are not available.
  2. Set Goals. What is it that you want to learn? What is it you want to gain by attending? Set 3 goals for yourself—maybe even push the limits with a goal that is outside your comfort zone! Write these goals down and keep them handy during the conference to reference them.
  3. Minimize Distractions. When you’re home, it’s easy to get distracted by children, work emails, things on your “to-do” list, or the neighbor mowing their lawn. Find a comfy, quiet spot for the times you will be hopping on the conference. Exit out of all the other open windows on your computer, and get out your favorite notebook to write down great ideas.
  4. Dress the Part. Sometimes it’s hard to get into the right headspace when you are rocking your pajamas and morning breath. And for some, it’s easier to get relaxed and comfortable for a long day of learning if they are wearing their favorite baseball cap and tee. Know which category you fall into and dress accordingly.
  5. Network. Don’t be shy when it comes to the chatbox. Ask those questions. Take advantage of the “extras” during the conference—start up a conversation or share your favorite parts thus far in the Attendee Lounge; share on social media by using #VBC2020; or take part in the Virtual Mix and Mingle Happy Hour on Saturday, June 28.
