The designation of Regents' Professor is an honored position reserved for faculty scholars of exceptional ability who achieved national and international distinction. The Regents' Professor title serves as recognition of the highest academic merit and is awarded to faculty members who have made a unique contribution to the quality of the University through distinguished accomplishments in teaching scholarship, research or creative work. Professors can be nominated from all areas of teaching and inquiry. Appointments are limited to tenured and tenure-track faculty members and carry a modest salary increase.

The Center for Creative Photography will award up to $3,500 to support research on the arts and career of Todd Walker. Advanced scholars and researchers from any discipline are encouraged to apply. Pre-doctoral applicants must have completed coursework and preliminary examinations for the doctoral degree and must be engaged in dissertation research. Proposed research will be selected through the quality of the research and its relationship to the Center’s collection.

The Simons Foundation is accepting letters of intent for its Simons Early Career Investigator in Marine Microbial Ecology and Evolution Awards. The purpose of the program is to help launch the careers of outstanding investigators who use quantitative approaches to advance the understanding of marine microbial ecology and evolution. Grants will be for $180,000 per year for a period of three years. Appropriate expenses include salary support for the investigator and postdoctoral and graduate research assistants, travel, equipment, supplies, and other research expenses.

The Consortium for Applied Studies in Jewish Education (CASJE) is an evolving community of researchers, practitioners, and philanthropic leaders dedicated to improving the quality of knowledge that can be used to guide the work of Jewish Education. CASJE aims to stimulate and support the work of researchers, practitioners, and funders who believe that evidence should drive decision-making in Jewish education. To advance this mission, CASJE is requesting proposals that will make a difference in how Jewish education is practiced. Three grants of up to $30,000 will be awarded to stimulate time-concentrated thematically-focused research that can be applied to the practice of Jewish education.

Providing education and advocacy services for people with psychiatric and/or developmental disabilities is the focus on the People with Disabilities Foundation (PWDF). PWDF is continuing the development of its pilot grant program, which supports the work of other agencies to integrate people with psychiatric and/or developmental disabilities into society. To that end, grants of up to $12,500 will be awarded in support of programs, projects, or general operating expenses related to advocacy, education, vocational, or other areas of particular interest.

AIDS United, in partnership with Elton John AIDS Foundation, Levi Strauss Foundation, Open Society Foundations, and H. Van Ameringen Fund, is pleased to announce the opportunity for grant support through the Syringe Access Fund. Approximately $2 million in new grants will be awarded. Funding of up to $75,000 will be awarded and applicants must be able to utilize funds over a 2-year period beginning February 1, 2018, and ending January 31, 2020. Grants to support work in access to sterile syringes through syringe services programs; and policy/advocacy campaigns focused on improving public policy at local, state, and/or national levels will be provided by AIDS United.

The American Association of Birth Centers Foundation – Research Grant<https://uafoundation.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d7da969976ad1054115e901b0&id=88a740c17d&e=55ed7015bc>

Established in 1994, the American Association of Birth Centers Foundation (AABCF) works to advance public knowledge and understanding of issues related to family-centered childbirth. AABCF will award grants of up to $5,000 to support research projects on issues related to the birth center model of care. The program is open to applicants that demonstrate capacity and a plan to complete the research in accordance with the project’s timeline. Letters of intent must be received no later than November 15, 2017. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit complete applications by January 8, 2018.

The American Academy of Dermatology – Shade Structure Grant Program<https://uafoundation.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d7da969976ad1054115e901b0&id=0a99a557dd&e=55ed7015bc>

Applications are being accepted by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) for its AAD Shade Structure Grant Program. Through the annual program, grants of up to $8,000 will be awarded to public schools and nonprofit organizations for the installation of permanent shade structures in outdoor locations not protected from the sun (e.g., playgrounds, pools, or recreation spaces). Nonprofit organizations that provide a shade structure that meets the stringent requirements of AAD, services, programs, and curricula to children and teenagers who are 18 and younger are welcome to apply.

The Doris Duke Clinical Scientist Development Award provides grants to junior physician scientists to facilitate their transition to independent clinical research careers. Pre-proposal applications are being sought from junior physician-scientist faculty conducting clinical research in any disease area. Competitive applicants are expected to have research experience and publication records consistent with the rank of assistant professor. In keeping with the wishes expressed in Doris Duke's will, experiments that use animals or primary tissues derived from animals will not be supported by this program. Approximately 16 grants of up to $495,000 each over 3 years ($150,000 direct cost and $15,000 indirect costs per year) will be awarded.

The American Concrete Institute Foundation is a nonprofit organization established by the American Concrete Institute to promote progress, innovation, and collaboration by supporting research and scholarships, while also serving as an independent resource to provide leadership and strategic direction for the concrete industry. The Concrete Research Council seeks to advance the concrete industry through the funding of concrete research projects that further the knowledge and sustainability of concrete materials, construction, and structures. To that end, the council will award grants of up to $50,000 for research projects that advance this research.

Autism Science Foundation – Pre- and Post-Doctoral Training Awards<https://uafoundation.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d7da969976ad1054115e901b0&id=dd88511df6&e=55ed7015bc>

The Autism Science Foundation (ASF) is inviting applications from graduate students, medical students, and postdoctoral fellows interested in pursuing careers in basic and clinical research relevant to autism spectrum disorders. The one-year awards include $25,000 for pre-doctoral and medical students and $35,000 for postdoctoral students. The proposed training must be scientifically linked to autism and may be broadened to include training in a closely related area of scientific research. ASF also invites studies focused on unaffected siblings and recurrence risk in the offspring of unaffected siblings. ASF is also interested in supporting research on the neurobiology and molecular biology of autism using post-mortem brain tissue. Special consideration will be given to projects focused on gender issues in autism.

Founded in 1996, the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research is accepting applications for pilot study projects in ovarian cancer research. Through the Pilot Study Program, approximately ten one-year grants of $75,000 will be awarded to support investigator-initiated projects in all areas of ovarian cancer research. Projects designed to analyze data from already funded clinical trials will also be considered. Priority will be given to proposals that are innovative, multi-disciplinary, and likely to lead to the submission of grant applications for independently funded investigations.

The When Everyone Survives Foundation was founded to advance cures and treatment for leukemia through support for innovative research. One-year grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded in support of innovative laboratory, translational, or clinical research related to acute leukemia. Renewal of initial research support may be considered for one or more additional years based on productivity.

The New York City-based Camille & Henry Dreyfus Foundation is accepting nominations from academic institutions for its Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program. The annual program supports the research and teaching careers of talented young faculty in the chemical sciences at undergraduate institutions. The award is based on accomplishments in scholarly research with undergraduates, as well as a compelling commitment to teaching, and provides an unrestricted research grant of $60,000. The program is open to academic institutions in the states, districts, and territories of the United States that grant a bachelor's or master's degree in the chemical sciences, including biochemistry, materials chemistry, and chemical engineering.

The National Academy of Education (NAEd) has partnered with the Spencer Foundation to support the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in support of early-career scholars working in critical areas of education research. Funds will be awarded to proposals with the potential to make significant scholarly contributions to the field of education. The program also aims to develop the careers of its recipients through professional development activities involving NAEd members. Fellows receive $70,000 for one academic year of research, or $35,000 for each of two contiguous years working half-time, and are included in professional development retreats with other fellows and NAEd members.

Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown – 2018-2019 Writing Fellowship<https://uafoundation.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d7da969976ad1054115e901b0&id=fff1cd92c0&e=55ed7015bc>

The growth and development of emerging visual artists and writers and restoration of the year-round vitality of the historic art colony of Provincetown is the focus of the Fine Arts Work Center (FAWC) in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Fellowships will be awarded to five poets and five fiction writers each year from October 1 through April 30. Writing Fellows are provided with a private, furnished apartment and a monthly stipend of $750. Fellows are required to remain in residence at the FAWC during the seven-month fellowship. Eligible applicants must be emerging fiction writers or poets. There is a $50 application fee.

Applicants should be working to reduce the destructive impact of current criminal justice policies on the lives of individuals, families, and communities in the United States by challenging the over-reliance on incarceration and extreme punishment while ensuring a fair and accountable system of justice.

The Beckman Center for the History of Chemistry at the Chemical Heritage Foundation is currently offering three levels of fellowships to vibrant community scholars whose work is in some way tied to the history of materials, chemistry, and all related sciences. Postdoctoral fellowships include stipends of $45,000 and are open to scholars at the postdoctoral level. Dissertation fellowships include stipends of $26,000 and are open to graduate students at the dissertation stage. Short-term fellowships include stipends of $3,000 per month in a residence program of one to four months and are open to all scholars and researchers.
