The George H. Davis Travel Fellowship was established by the University of Arizona in honor of former Executive Vice President and Provost, George H. Davis. The fellowship will provide costs associated with invited participation in prestigious national or international conferences, lectureships, and exhibitions. It is intended to increase visibility and networking opportunities, and to provide timely recognition in research, scholarship, and creative activities. Funds granted to the fellow can be used as expenses for travel, accommodations, and scholarly preparation. Faculty within their first four years of the UA are eligible to apply via UA’s Competition Space.

The office of Research, Discovery & Innovation (RDI) is accepting applications for its Core Facility Equipment Enhancement Fund. The Grant is available through the acquisition of equipment for the use of multiple investigators in university core facilities. Investigators can request equipment of a total cost of $100,000 to $300,000. The equipment should be administered and approved by an existing professional, core facility personnel. Proposals must demonstrate the need from multiple committed users from multiple units. Proposals are also required to be endorsed by the core facility user and located in an approved facility. Awardees are required to work with RDI staff to establish internal and external usage rates. RDI funds should only be used for equipment costs and not used for salaries or operations, however these costs can be provided as facility contributions. Applicants should have a proposing team or three or more investigators (faculty tenure-track, continuing-track, and/or research-track and appointed personnel), with one corresponding investigator, on behalf of the core facility faculty user committee.

The Searle Freedom Trust was founded by Daniel C. Searle in 1998 to foster research and education on public policy issues that affect individual freedom and economic liberty. Through its grant-making, the foundation seeks to develop solutions to the country’s most important and challenging domestic policy issues. Recognizing that good policymaking relies on the availability of high-quality research, the foundation invests primarily in scholarship that results in the publication of books, journal articles, and policy papers. The Searle Freedom Trust also provides funding for public interest litigation and supports outreach to the public through a variety of forums, including sponsorship of research conferences and seminars, film and journalism projects, and new media initiatives.

The ASPEN Rhoads Research Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN), is dedicated to improving patient care by advancing the science and practice of clinical nutrition and metabolism. Founded in 1976, ASPEN is an interdisciplinary organization whose members are involved in the provision of clinical nutrition therapies, including parenteral and enteral nutrition. To advance its mission, the foundation is accepting applications for its ASPEN Rhoads Research Foundation Grants program. Through the annual program, grants from $10,000  to $25,000 are awarded for research projects by early-career investigators of clinical nutrition and metabolism in alignment with the priorities outlined in the ASPEN Research Agenda. To be eligible, applicants must be within ten years of completing a terminal research degree or medical residency (or the equivalent); be at or below the rank of assistant professor; and commit at least 20 percent of their time to research in a professional institute that conducts nutrition research.

The RPM Foundation is a services-providing, resource-sharing, grantmaking organization that works to accelerate the growth of the next generation of automotive restoration and preservation craftsmen and artisans through formal training and mentorship. The Foundation ensures that the critical skills necessary to preserve and restore collectible vehicles and boats are not lost. To advance this mission, the organization awards grants of up $10,000 to $25,000 to programs that provide hands-on education and instruction related to the specialized skills and knowledge needed to maintain cars and boats. To be eligible, applicants must be an educational institution or organization that utilizes collectible vehicles or wooden boats as a teaching tool and provides maximum opportunity for hands-on learning experiences to young people.

The mission of KR Foundation is to help provide answers to, stimulate mind shifts about, and encourage action on, the long-term challenges faced by current and future generations living on a planet with finite resources, fragile ecosystems, and climate change.  The Foundation addresses the root causes of environmental degradation and planetary boundaries in areas where neither government nor market actors seem to have incentives. The foundation considers non-profit activities with a long-term impact in the environment. Other prioritize program areas are sustainable behavior in the change of communication, policy acceptance and social norms; and sustainable finance which supports interventions that aim to financial incentives for the reduction of production and consumption of fossil fuels in unsustainable levels. KR Foundation’s grants typically range from $300,000 to $700,000 with a duration of up to approximately 3 years.

Since 1034, Engineering Information Foundation (EiF) was established to improve worldwide engineering, education, and practice through the recruitment of women and information technology. Development projects, instructional projects, and training programs in engineering education and research are the foundation’s fields of interest. The Foundation awards projects from $5,000 to $25,000 to organizations who are willing to promote significant change with measurable results in innovative projects or methodologies that are well-defined and cost effective. Program areas include enhancing communication and use of information in engineering; women in engineering; and developing countries through technology and engineering. Initial proposals are to be sent via email and reviewed by the EiF’s Board of Directors.

The Kent Richard Hofmann Foundation is a private foundation dedicated to the fight against HIV and AIDS. The foundation is accepting Letters of Intent from community-based organizations working in the areas of care and direct services, education, and research. Grants will be awarded in support of developing or established programs, with an emphasis on direct benefit to clients or target audiences. Requests from around the U.S. will be considered, with particular interest in smaller communities and rural areas. Priority is given to requests from locations with a scarcity of available funding; requests for seed money for new projects, programs, or structures; and/or innovative ideas for meeting standard needs. Grant amounts are determined on a project-by-project basis. To be eligible, applicants should have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.

Through its Furthermore program, the J.M. Kaplan Fund supports nonfiction book publishing about the urban experience; natural and historic resources; art, architecture, and design; cultural history; and civil liberties and other public issues. The program seeks work that appeals to an informed general audience; demonstrates evidence of high standards in editing, design, and production; promises a reasonable shelf life; might not otherwise achieve top quality or even come into being; and "represents a contribution without which we would be the poorer." Individual grants will range from $1,500 to approximately $15,000 and may be used to support writing, research, editing, design, indexing, photography, illustration, and/or printing and binding.

The Anthem Foundation supports specific public health issues that positively affect key health conditions identified on their Healthy Generations Program. The foundation’s area of emphasizing efforts are cardiac mortality; cancer prevention and smoking cessation; maternal and newborn health; diabetes prevention and management; and childhood and elderly obesity. The Anthem Foundation has two funding options Anthem Foundation Grants and Community Relations & Sponsorship. Invested programs that provide services and changes in health care can be solved in a traditional and nontraditional approach.

The Foundation's general purpose is to carry on the vision of its founder, Samuel Rubin, whose life was dedicated to the pursuit of peace and justice and the search for an equitable reallocation of the world's resources. The Foundation believes that these objectives can be achieved only through the fullest implementation of social, economic, political, civil and cultural rights for all the world's people. The Foundation will provide small grants in the range of $5,000 to $10,000 to organizations whose projects fit the Foundation’s purpose and interests. The Foundation does not typically award more than one grant per fiscal year per organization.

The Amphion Foundation, Inc., founded in 1987 by Elliott and Helen Carter, was established to encourage the performance of contemporary concert music, particularly by American composers, through support to performing and presenting organizations that have demonstrated sustained artistic excellence, in addition to service organizations. Project support will be given only for a project that begins in the current season. Thus, for the 2017 grant round, support will only be given to projects that begin between September 2017 and August 2018. In general, grants up to $7,500 will be awarded to publicly supported non-profit Education/Residency; Festival; Library/Archive; Presenter; Radio/T.V.; and Music Service Organizations that have a history of substantial commitment to contemporary concert music at a high level of excellence.

The Nutricia Research Foundation is a strictly independent Charity established in 1989 by N.V. Verenigde Bedrijven Nutricia. The Foundation’s mission is to support research in the area of human nutrition. Through its research program, the Nutricia Foundation focuses on investing in nutrition research; strengthening institutions of research centers; and nutrition leadership programs. The Foundation will support research project to a maximum of € 25,000 per year. The grant should be spent only on items specified in the budget sheet included in the application. Please note that the Nutricia Research Foundation is an independent charity, which in principle does not support overhead charges. The Foundation will not support travel cost or investment in permanent equipment. If the research project involves the use of human volunteers, payment for volunteers would be accepted.




FELLOWSHIPS

In 1966, at a time of civil unrest and social upheaval, Gene Roddenberry created Star Trek and presented us with a future in which our differences made us stronger, our individuality was celebrated (not feared), and collaborative efforts on behalf of humanity yielded great outcomes. Today, the Roddenberry Fellowship has been created to support 20 of these individuals as they make strides to achieve this goal. The Roddenberry Foundation is looking for 20 activists, leaders, advocates, and change-makers whose work has the greatest potential to protect the most vulnerable and make the US a more equitable and inclusive place to live. Fellows will be selected to receive funding, as well as tailored support, to help implement a project or initiative in one of four areas: Civil Rights, Climate Change and Environmental Justice, Immigration and Refugee Rights, LGBTQIA and Women's Rights. The new 12-month program will award $50,000 to each of the 20 selected fellows to support and help implement a project or initiative.

The New York Academy of Medicine, are dedicated to advance the health and well-being of people living in cities. Established in 1847, The New York Academy of Medicine continues to address the health challenges facing New York City and the world’s rapidly growing urban populations. Their current priorities are healthy aging, disease prevention, and eliminating health disparities through a deep and long-standing commitment to understand the complex factors that determine health in cities. The Paul Klemperer Fellowship in the History of Medicine supports research using Academy library resources for scholarly study of the history of medicine. It is intended specifically for a scholar in residence at the Academy Library. Each Klemperer fellow receives a stipend of $5,000 to support travel, lodging and incidental expenses for a flexible period between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018. The Klemperer Fellow is expected to spend at least four weeks in New York City, working at The New York Academy of Medicine.

The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York, is accepting applications for a new research residency program for artists that will allow them to utilize its resources, including the permanent collections and the holdings of the Rakow Research Library, to inform their practice. Named for the museum's former executive director, the David Whitehouse Artist Residency for Research will enable artists to be in residence for up to three weeks to explore materials at the Rakow Library, the world's foremost library on the art and history of glass and glassmaking, and to use other scholarly resources available at the museum, including knowledgeable staff in all parts of the organization. One resident will be selected for the first year to be in residence for up to three weeks in 2018. While in Corning, the artist will be asked to give a presentation about his or her work and research. Artists who feel they would benefit from using the resources of the Rakow Library and spending some time at the Corning Museum of Glass are encouraged to apply.

The Social Science Research Council is inviting applications for its 2018 Abe Fellowship Program. The program seeks to foster the development of a new generation of researchers who are interested in policy-relevant topics of long-range importance and who are willing to become key members of a bilateral and global research network built around such topics. The program is open to citizens of the United States and Japan as well as nationals of other countries who can demonstrate strong and serious long-term affiliations with research communities in Japan or the United States. Applicants must hold a PhD or the terminal degree in their field, or have attained an equivalent level of professional experience at the time of application. Applications from researchers in professions other than academia are encouraged with the expectation that the product of the fellowship will contribute to the wider body of knowledge on the topic specified.

The Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program, now in its 20th year, is a full-time hands-on training and educational program that provides early career individuals with the opportunity to spend 12 weeks at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in Washington, DC. With a stipend of $9,000, fellows learn about science and technology policy and the role that scientists and engineers play in advising the nation. The fellowship program, which operates under the auspices of the Policy and Global Affairs Division, a program unit within the Academies, is designed to engage early career professionals in the analytical processes that inform U.S. science and technology policy.  An immersive experience, the program is designed to broaden fellows’ appreciation of employment opportunities outside academia and leave them with both a firm grasp of the important and dynamic role of science and technology in decision-making and a better understanding of the role that they can play in strengthening the science and technology enterprise for the betterment of mankind.

The Nutricia Research Foundation is a strictly independent Charity established in 1989 by N.V. Verenigde Bedrijven Nutricia. The Foundation’s mission is to support research in the area of human nutrition. The Foundation also recognizes the importance of giving young scientists the possibility to attend research trainings and/or perform short research projects at renowned scientific institutes. For this purpose International Training Fellowship grants are being provided. The training is devoted to learning new techniques and performing short research projects not possible at their current institute. The Foundation offer a short and long term fellowship of maximum of 12 months. The maximum fellowship grant amounts to approximately $29,300 while the short term fellowship awards a maximum budget of $2,300 per month for accommodation and other expenses.

A program of the American Academy in Rome, the Rome Prize is awarded annually to thirty artists and scholars in the early or middle stages of their careers who exemplify the highest standard of excellence in arts and humanities scholarship. Fellows are chosen from the disciplines of architecture, design, historic preservation and conservation, landscape architecture, literature, musical composition, visual arts, ancient studies, medieval studies, Renaissance and Early Modern studies, and Modern Italian studies. Each prize winner is provided with a stipend, meals, a bedroom with private bath, and a study or studio. (Those with children under the age of 18 live in partially subsidized apartments nearby.) Fellows with half-term and full-term fellowships will receive stipends of $16,000 and $28,000, respectively. Fellow with Two-Year fellowships will receive $28,000 annually. Applicants for all Rome Prize fellowships, must be a citizen of the United States at the time of the application. U.S citizens and foreign nationals who have lived in the U.S. for three years immediately preceding the application deadline may apply for an NEH postdoctoral fellowship. Graduate students in the humanities may apply only for pre-doctoral fellowships.

The Strong invites researchers to use its wealth of resources on the history of play and playthings. To encourage and support scholarship, The Strong awards research fellowships. Fellowships are granted through three programs which are granted for periods from 1 week to 3 months. The Strong Research Fellowships for scholarly research is about play in all forms and dimensions related to the context, creation, and use of playthings and other play-related artifacts. The Fellowship has a stipend of $500 per week and may be awarded for a maximum of 4 weeks. Mary Valentine and Andrew Cosman Research Fellowships is for scholarly research about games of all types and related topics of play. The Fellowship has a stipend of $500 per week and may be awarded for maximum 4 weeks. Frances M. Williams Research Fellowships for scholarly research is about puzzles, puzzle play, and related topics. A stipend of $600 may be awarded for a maximum of 1 week. The G. Rollie Adams Research Fellowships for scholarly research is about play with a stipend of $500 stipend per week may be awarded for a maximum for 4 weeks.
