Dear BIO5 Members,

I encourage you to apply for new seed grant opportunities<http://bio5.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6e4e43b7b401ccef2b4683679&id=3fae1e6937&e=2c083c61ee>—next proposals are due April 18th.
This year, the Office for Research & Discovery (ORD) is implementing a coordinated university-wide call for proposals, to assure that investigators in all areas of campus have access to seed grants that enable externally-funded research success. Proposal submission is coordinated through ORD and submission is through the UA Competition Space<http://bio5.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6e4e43b7b401ccef2b4683679&id=1db3036d62&e=2c083c61ee> portal.

BIO5 Institute is a partner in these efforts. The Improving Health Technology Research Initiative Fund (TRIF) supports BIO5 and other research initiatives in biomedical sciences. A portion of the Improving Health TRIF funds will be dedicated to these seed grant programs. We are particularly interested in interdisciplinary translational biosciences topics identified through the strategic planning faculty workshops<http://bio5.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6e4e43b7b401ccef2b4683679&id=6170e8277b&e=2c083c61ee>, including:
1. Aging and Age-related Diseases
2. Enabling Omics
3. Advancing Health Outcomes through Technology
4. Infectious Diseases and the Science of Microbiomes
5. Bio-informatics
6. Bio-imaging & enabling technologies
BIO5 will work with the awardees to assure their success, including linking investigators with university-wide resource.

More information on the University-wide funding programs is available on the Research Gateway<http://bio5.us5.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=6e4e43b7b401ccef2b4683679&id=f43b259ea1&e=2c083c61ee>. A brief description of programs with April 18th deadlines (for July 1 start) is below:

Pilot Interdisciplinary Project Grants
Pilot Interdisciplinary Project grants are available to interdisciplinary teams of two or more faculty, from at least two colleges, who wish to obtain pilot data for a specific external proposal mechanism, generally at the level of $1M or greater total costs.

Accelerate for Success Grants
Accelerate for Success grants are available to transdisciplinary teams of faculty who wish to establish or extend successful research programs into an emerging or upcoming federal priority area. Funds are available to position the team to be successful for a specific, large scale (often multi-institutional) extramural program proposals.

Graduate/Undergraduate Team Interdisciplinary Research "Link" Awards
The Graduate/Undergraduate Team Interdisciplinary Research “Link” Award leverages existing funded research of a faculty into a new interdisciplinary domain, enables the graduate student to learn a new capabilities and mentoring skills, and provides undergraduates an intensive research experience. The graduate student must be supervised by at least 2 faculty mentors who are part of the co-principal investigator team and from different colleges.

Graduate/Undergraduate Team Industry Engagement Awards Graduate/Undergraduate Team Industry Engagement awards are available to match a new UA industry sponsored agreement with support towards a Graduate Research Assistantship inclusive of tuition remission at .50 FTE and two undergraduate assistants.

Best of luck!
Sincerely,
