[Faculty] Career Updates and Alert

Greetings CALS Faculty,

I hope the semester has started smoothly for you and continues to go well.

A couple of quick reminders for you:


1)      The CALS Career Center is here to serve you and your students.  The staff are available to meet with students regarding any number of career questions including career exploration, resume and cover letter review and interview preparation.  To better serve your needs the center is happy to assist in hosting any representatives from industry representatives you might have coming to campus and help them make the most out of their time on with us on campus.  If you need a guest lecturer on career related topics they are happy to work with you to make this happen as well.



2)      Please see the below message from Eileen McGarry with UA Career Services:

"I hope I am sending this in the right direction, but if not let me know where to direct this message.  I am trying to head off an issue that seems to repeat itself every year and need help getting word out to faculty particularly instructing large entry level freshman classes.

As classes begin for the fall semester each year we experience individuals posing as employers approved by Career Services who go into large classes claiming they have job or internship opportunities and passing around sign-up sheets to students requesting their name email and phone numbers.    These can be fraudulent employers or pyramid scheme companies targeting our freshman students and catching faculty instructors unaware.  Career Services always prearranges any presentations or announcements with faculty members so this should never be happening with our approval."
