The W.M. Keck Foundation (WMKF) offers research grants<http://arizona.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b6ba9388f9c749678c5f1628d&id=be6d5fd57f&e=054c2abe29> to support pioneering projects in two program areas: 1.) Science and Engineering Research; and 2.) Medical Research. The WMKF funds projects that are distinctive and novel in their approach. Projects that are high-risk with the potential for a significant and transformative impact are ideal. This WMKF program typically provides up to $1M in project funding over two-to-three years (that must be matched by UA, approximately 1:1). Please note that the WMKF does not support drug delivery, therapeutics, clinical, or disease-specific research projects.
This UA Limited Solicitation Notice is a request for Concept Paper proposals that will be reviewed at UA for possible submission to the WMKF. UA may submit up to four single-page Concept Papers in each program area prior to progressing to Phase I Applications. Staff from the UA Office for Research & Discovery (ORD) will provide strategic and editorial assistance to finalize the internally selected UA Concept Papers, which are submitted to the WMKF by the UA Foundation (UAF). A WMKF representative will then provide pre-application counseling feedback to the UAF on UA’s Concept Papers. Following this counseling, ORD and the UAF will finalize the selection of one Concept Paper per program area to be expanded and submitted to the WMKF as a Phase I Application by May 1, 2016. Applicants may not contact the W.M. Keck Foundation directly as the foundation requires that all interactions are initiated through the UAF.
Important Dates:
* College review internal deadline: On or about November 9, 2015. Please consult with your Dean’s office for the specific date.
* ORD internal review deadline: November 16, 2015
* UAF Deadline (for UA’s selected Concept Papers): January 15, 2016
* Sponsor Deadlines: Pre-application Counseling with WMKF during January 2016; Phase I Applications due to WMKF on May 1, 2016
Interested faculty are asked to submit a one-page Concept Paper proposal for this Limited Solicitation Notice to their dean for referral to ORD by the internal deadline, which includes the requirements described below:
* The area of emphasis for the project – medical research or science and engineering research;
* An overview of the proposed project emphasizing any unique aspects and pilot studies;
* A description of the methodologies and key personnel;
* A brief justification of the need for Keck support; and
* An estimated budget broken down, if possible, by major areas, e.g., personnel, equipment, and operations (budgets can be rough approximations at this stage).
