The Science Foundation Arizona (SFAz) 2016 Bisgrove Scholar Program<http://arizona.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b6ba9388f9c749678c5f1628d&id=0f411c543a&e=bc0e0ce3f9> supports the recruitment, retention, and mentoring of top tier post-doctoral and early tenure track scientists and engineers to Arizona. This Program solicits exceptional individuals who have demonstrated substantial achievement in their field for their career level; and who have the potential to transform ideas into value for society and the interest to work at the convergence of several disciplines or areas identified as uniquely important and synergistic. This program provides $100,000 per year for two years. UA is allowed to submit five nominations to the SFAz Board.
Post-doctoral: The award for a post-doctoral scholar will be for salary (minimum base salary of $60K per year), benefits, and research support. Competitive applicants will be those proposing to work in a different research group from their PhD lab.
Early tenure track: For early tenure track scholars, the Bisgrove Scholar award is not to be used for salary or benefits but to augment the research and teaching start up package.

Important dates:

  *   College/Institute review internal deadline:  On or about August 18, 2015.  Please consult with your Dean’s/Director’s office for specific date.
  *   Office for Research & Discovery internal review deadline:  August 25, 2015.
  *   Sponsor Deadline:  October 27, 2015.
Interested scholars that meet the eligibility criteria (see link above) are asked to submit a pre-proposal to their deans for referral to the Office for Research & Discovery by the internal deadline. Pre-proposals will include:

  1.  2-3 page project description, to include the following sections:
     *   Match to Bisgrove Program: Explain why your interests would be a good match for UA, and why a Bisgrove award would, in the long term, not only benefit you but also the state of Arizona;
     *   Research Plan: Brief description of your proposed plan and indicating how it will focus on multidisciplinary interests and how it is entrepreneurial.
     *   Scientific/Community Interactions: Briefly describe experiences, if any, you have had disseminating scientific knowledge to a variety of audiences and any interactions with the community at large, including any teaching experience.
  2.  1 page description of your career interests and how this makes you an exceptional Bisgrove Scholar candidate, in the light of your background and past achievements.
  3.  2 page Curriculum Vitae that includes a list of 3-5 major publications and states in 1-2 sentences their importance.
  4.  Up to one page mentor description, to include:

     *   Names, with respective institutional and departmental affiliation, and designation (primary research mentor or mentor in complementary discipline), of two individuals who will serve as your preferred mentors.
     *   An explanation of how each of these mentor choices relates to the proposed Bisgrove research project.
  1.  Names, with respective institutional and departmental affiliation, of three faculty who will provide recommendation letters. (Note: The actual support letters are not required for this limited solicitation selection process.)
