Limited Solicitation Notice – Extension of Internal Deadline

The David & Lucile Packard Foundation, Packard Fellowships for Science and Engineering<http://arizona.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b6ba9388f9c749678c5f1628d&id=8b0784c122&e=e1f9f074a0> program provides support for highly creative researchers early in their careers.  The Foundation emphasizes support for innovative individual research that involves the Fellows, their students, and junior colleagues, rather than extensions or components of large‐scale, ongoing research programs.

The UA may nominate two early career professors.  Candidates must be faculty members who are eligible to serve as principal investigators engaged in research in the natural and physical sciences or engineering and must be within the first three years of their faculty careers. Disciplines that will be considered include physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, astronomy, computer science, earth science, ocean science, and all branches of engineering. Candidates engaged in research in the social sciences will not be considered.  Recipients will receive individual grants of $875,000 distributed over five years.

Important dates:

  *   College review internal deadline:  On or about February 20, 2015.  Please consult with your Dean’s office for specific date.
  *   Office for Research & Discovery (ORD) internal review deadline:  February 25, 2015.
  *   Packard Foundation nomination deadline:  March 16, 2015.
  *   Nominee material submission deadline:  April 20, 2015.

Interested faculty should submit a pre-proposal to their Dean for referral to the Office for Research by the internal review deadline.  Pre-proposals will include:

  *   A 1-2 page research statement
  *   A brief biosketch (4 pages maximum)
Packard Foundation fellowship submissions involve two components.  The UA submits a form identifying the nominees to the Packard Foundation (due March 16th). Then, once the nominees have been identified to the Packard Foundation, they will be required to submit their application material using the Packard Foundation online system (due April 20th).  Nominee application material will include a Research Statement, biographical material and four letters of recommendation, one from the nominee’s department head and three from people outside the university.
