The Outstanding New Environmental Scientist (ONES) Award (R01)<http://arizona.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b6ba9388f9c749678c5f1628d&id=6512d1e654&e=db7a664467> program is intended to support the most talented Early Stage Investigators (ESIs) who intend to make a long-term commitment to research in the Environmental Health Sciences and assist them in launching an innovative research program focused on the understanding of environmental exposure effects on people's health. Biomedical investigators with projects across the spectrum of science supported by the NIEHS (i.e., including basic mechanistic, clinical and population based researchers) are encouraged to apply. Each proposal may request funds of up to $250,000 direct costs per year for a period of 5 years, plus an additional $250,000 for career enhancement (distributed over the 5-year budget period). Only one application per School or College within a University will be accepted.

Important dates:

  *   College/Institute review internal deadline:  On or about December 8, 2014.  Please consult with your Dean's/Director's office for specific date.
  *   Office for Research & Discovery internal review deadline:  December 15, 2014.
  *   Sponsor Deadline:  February 27, 2015
Interested investigators who fit the NIH definition of Early Stage Investigator<http://arizona.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b6ba9388f9c749678c5f1628d&id=02d455da0f&e=db7a664467> are asked to submit a pre-proposal to their deans for referral to the Office for Research & Discovery by the internal deadline. Pre-proposals will include a 2-3 page project description and a 4-page NIH Biosketch.  The project description should address how this proposal will be responsive to the mission of the NIEHS<http://arizona.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b6ba9388f9c749678c5f1628d&id=12a6dfc63d&e=db7a664467> and the NIEHS 2012-2017 Strategic Plan<http://arizona.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b6ba9388f9c749678c5f1628d&id=e7b68ada52&e=db7a664467>.
