[Faculty] Data Management Workshop - October 15

Colleagues,

Fiona McCarthy, Barron Orr, Eric Lyons, Randy Burd, Bonnie Hurwitz and 
Bryan Wang serve as the CALS faculty advisory group focused on helping 
us gear up for future developments in cyber-infrastructure, big data, 
etc. (aka "CAG").

In collaboration with CCT and the Net Managers from all CALS 
departments, the CAG have identified current vulnerabilities that 
influence how well prepared we are, and will be, for any future advances 
in cyber-infrastructure and big data. These include the increasingly 
stringent regulations associated with data management, retention, 
sharing, and the associated planning (e.g., the "data management plan" 
requirements in many proposals). It turns out this has also been a 
concern at the university level. To that end CAG and CCT have engaged 
Chris Kollen (UA Libraries), who has organized a workshop on this topic 
specifically for CALS faculty. I encourage you to attend if you can fit 
it in your schedule. This will also make part of your grant writing 
experience much easier.

*DATA MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP -- OCTOBER 15:*

A reminder that the *second Data Management Workshop* is on *Tuesday, 
October 15 *from 10:00-11:00am in Forbes 307.  The workshop will be led 
by the UA Libraries and the Data Management Service that supports 
faculty and researchers developing data management plans.  During the 
workshop Chris Kollen, Data Curation Librarian, and Cindy Elliott, 
Science Librarian, will review the Research Data Life Cycle, funding 
agency requirements for sharing data, the DMP Tool for preparing data 
management plans, data management tips, and Library and Campus 
consulting services.  You can also check out the Data Management 
Resources website <http://data.library.arizona.edu/>.  If you would like
