Dear Colleagues,
The memo below is a renewed call for participation in an annual faculty
survey regarding opportunities for university-level service and
participation in shared governance. To date, only 4% of UA faculty have
responded.Like Dr. Howell and Dr. McCammon, I urge you to participate in
this conversation.
Your voice is an essential component of our shared governance. Here in
CALS, faculty serve on a number of college-level committees that are key
to a transparent decision-making process.I want to ensure that we keep
communications open, that we evaluate every idea thoroughly, and that we
make decisions in the spirit of shared governance.
You have both the opportunity and the obligation to have your voice
heard.Faculty who represent the college on university-level committees
also have the chance to ensure that our particular needs and concerns as
a college are being considered in university decisions.
I am confident that CALS faculty will take the time to participate in
this survey and consider a new commitment to university-level committee
service.
Regards,
Shane

RE: *Annual Faculty Survey: Opportunities for University-level Service
and Participation in Shared Governance*
Your participation on faculty committees helps to protect and improve
the quality of this University and the rights of your faculty
colleagues. The collective wisdom of our faculty is strong and
respected. YOUR voice is needed as we face dramatic changes in teaching
and research, information technology, and in the level and form of
financial support.
Each year the UA Committee on Committees (CoC) conducts a faculty survey
which gives each of you the opportunity to indicate your interest in
faculty service. The CoC relies on the survey results to identify
faculty to nominate for various General Faculty Standing Committees. The
survey is also used to identify faculty for service on a variety of
other committees as needed.
The survey is available at this link:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Survey13-14
Descriptions of each committee are also included to help you make your
choices.
The University of Arizona administrators and faculty leaders have long
adhered to the honorable tradition of Shared Governance. We believe that
faculty participation and consultation are essential to maintaining an
outstanding University with sound academic programs, promoting research
that significantly advances the mission of the University, recruiting
and retaining a distinguished faculty, cultivating institutional
diversity, and preserving academic freedom.
*/Please take advantage of these opportunities for University-level service!
