Dear colleagues,
The University of Arizona is committed to creating and maintaining a learning, working and living environment free from discrimination. The university’s commitment is in alignment with Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 (Title IX) which protects individuals from sex discrimination in educational programs and activities.
In April 2024, the U.S. Department of Education released new Title IX regulations, effective Aug. 1, which aim to strengthen federal protections against sex discrimination for both university employees and students.
New Title IX Regulations and Resources
The university has taken steps this summer to update our education and training<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=b3a46bd7773e7dd691eee24b0ad4bc16f0e1c6d6e3af0561a99be75ede5e3c233c98d271f22c17a448dead0fa218b2bfc3ed33983fe0d4f691fd9b67894d81a3>, grievance procedures<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=b3a46bd7773e7dd65e15fbc501c37c40c551a86a4711118bf82f4b39630a6ef35149c8c20c47b58724d979267e3cb3d7d3fe73363b260c589f98ef60a8f409e2>, and supportive resources<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=b3a46bd7773e7dd6038e873218121822ede76233b14f808e68996696169e5da2152e145fe465a42e7a335ae5acbf1139d101ef083b4f2489bb0d525399bee236>, including those for pregnant and parenting employees and students<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=b3a46bd7773e7dd65c9d365642c90886a522ee141b9712158b0020c24d04f170ed59ec8a6c73fe5f2f9550c5913624a70305db6d522c08c6a5ac20c91f66fed6>.
Title IX Annual Training
On Aug. 1, all current employees were enrolled in Title IX training<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=b3a46bd7773e7dd6e3dd250fd033bdf622cff22d1de8fbe230250e290822765b783baff2e05ada333fba48584f5fd6b7728ff1275afb1dfc8afde051581b6261>, with a 90-day period for completion. EDGE Learning will notify employees to complete the mandatory training on an annual basis; new employees will have 30 days to complete it during the onboarding process.
Title IX at U of A
While federal protections from sex discrimination for employees and students have been clarified and strengthened through new Title IX regulations, the University of Arizona has long held a comprehensive approach to preventing, addressing and remedying sex discrimination, including sex-based harassment, that meets or exceeds the new federal standards.
Thank you for your efforts to maintain an equitable and supportive university environment.
Sincerely,
Mary Beth Tucker
Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer and Title IX Coordinator
University Compliance Division
The University of Arizona
