[CED/CD/EAT] Marketing & Communications Restructure

Good morning ALVSCE leaders,

There has been a change to the Marketing & Communications (MarComm<https://compass.arizona.edu/what-we-do>) structure within ALVSCE that is reflective of our diverse and often overlapping internal and external audiences, and our growth as an organization.   The new structure better recognizes these varied audiences and is intended to better respond to your needs.

Each part of the division has come to realize the value of MarComm: student marketing and engagement, crisis communications, division-wide brand coordination, media relations, stakeholder engagement, storytelling, social media management, web development and optimization, graphic design, videography, donor awareness and advocacy, etc.  These are very different activities, audiences, and require different skills from our MarComm professionals.

In response, a taskforce responsible for the MarComm activities in ALVSCE (Mike Staten, Mitch McClaran, Bethany Rutledge, Dominic Rodriguez, Rose Brandt, and me) was convened last fall and came up with a distributed model that establishes expertise in specific areas.  This approach minimizes duplication, allows for increased expertise, and is nimbler to the needs of each area.

MarComm Working Group & Who To Call

The new structure will be coordinated by the ALVSCE MarComm Working Group, which is comprised of members from each of the bulleted areas below:

  *   Experiment Station: Rose Brandt<mailto:rjbrandt at arizona.edu>
  *   ALVSCE Communications & Shared Creative Services: Rose Brandt<mailto:rjbrandt at arizona.edu>
  *   VP and Dean's Communications: Bethany Rutledge<mailto:rutledge at arizona.edu>

The Working Group collaboratively sets priorities, aligns resources to the highest returning activities, establishes the annual MarComm calendar, and coordinates our messaging among all parts of ALVSCE.

Website Ecosystem

If you need assistance with an existing website, please continue to contact Communications & Cyber Technologies<https://cct.arizona.edu/support>.  Shortly, Rose Brandt and a recently hired user experience web designer will work with CCT and units to develop content and usability strategies to improve department website design, functionality, and consistency.  Stay tuned.

Revised MarComm Portal on Compass

To better support our division, and coordinate the volume of requests, we have revamped the communications/marketing portal on Compass: https://compass.arizona.edu/what-we-do.  Anyone within the division can submit a request for support and story ideas to be assigned to the appropriate area or person.  This improves the transparency of the status of a project, helps MarComm staff stay organized, and facilitates collaboration and greater impact.

The taskforce is excited about the new structure and the opportunities that we will now be able to respond to.  To paraphrase an old proverb, if ALVSCE is great and no one is around to see it, did it really happen?  MarComm is here to ensure ALVSCE is seen and heard in a positive way.
