Good afternoon – There sure are a lot of great conferences and courses this spring. Below you’ll find details about six events scheduled from the end of April through the end of May. I’ve grouped them by conferences and courses.

THREE COURSES

The 10th Workshop on New Technologies for Arizona Agriculture


  *   When: Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023 – 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM. Lunch will be provided

  *   Topics: We will discuss topics related to new technologies for agriculture, like new agronomic and water and pest management practice, and their potentials for Arizona and the southwest.

Urban Ag Hour
The Urban Ag Hour is a new monthly initiative hosted by the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension's Urban Agriculture Production, Small-Scale, and Beginning Farmer Program in collaboration with the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Farmer Service Agency (FSA). Participants will gain knowledge specific to small-scale and urban farming, while having an opportunity to connect with service providers, Extension expertise and other farmers in attendance!


  *   When: Wednesday, April 26, 2023 – 10:00 a.m. -11:00am
  *   Where: Via Zoom!

  *   Topics: Upscaling of Indigenous agriculture and the NRCS EQIP program.
  *   Speakers: Dr. Michael Kotutwa Johnson: UArizona faculty member and Assistance Specialist with the School of Natural Resources and the Environment, and a member of the Hopi Tribe in Northern Arizona.
Mr. Phillip Jacquez: Supervisory Natural Resource Specialist, Team Leader – Team 6, the USDA-NRCS, Casa Grande, AZ.

  *   Who should attend: Growers, especially urban, small-scale and beginners, ag professionals, Ag industry representatives, relevant government representatives, and anyone interested in agriculture in Arizona.

Another initiative hosted by the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension's Urban Agriculture, Small-Scale, and Beginning Farmer Program in collaboration with the Natural Resources Conservation Service. AZ Health Zone and Maricopa County are partnering on this event to further support urban agriculture networking!


  *   When: Thursday, April 27, 2023 – 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

  *   Topics: The event will include a live irrigation demonstration with Dr. Martin on irrigation for urban farms, a farm tour and Q&A with Coldwater farmer Jhonny Flores, and a Networking Lunch. Both NRCS and FSA staff will be available to talk about program assistance for urban farmers. Participants will gain knowledge specific to small-scale and urban farming, while having an opportunity to connect with service providers, Extension expertise, local buyers, and other farmers in attendance!
  *   Speakers: Dr. Ed Martin: Interim Director of Cooperative Extension, and UArizona Extension Irrigation Specialist and Professor in the Department of Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering.
  *   Jhonny Flores: The lead farmer at the Coldwater Coop, and the Coop's bakery and coffee shop in Avondale.
  *   Who should attend: Growers, especially urban, small-scale and beginners, ag professionals, Ag industry representatives, relevant government representatives, and anyone interested in agriculture in Arizona.

THREE CONFERENCES

The 6th Arizona School IPM Conference will be offered ONLINE from April 24th – May 31st, 2023.
The Arizona School IPM Conference is a great opportunity for continuing education for all institutional staff engaged in operations, maintenance, turf and landscape, food service, health services and more, in schools, childcare, community colleges, public health, medical facilities, city parks and rec, turf and landscape and many other areas. 6 or 12 PMD/PUG/PUC CEUs will be available for license renewal. The Desert AG Conference will be held at the Wild Horse Pass Resort in Chandler from April 25 – 27, 2023.

The 32nd Annual Desert Horticulture Conference will be held May 5, 2023, at the El Conquistador Hotel in Tucson
This is the premier annual conference for all members of the southwest green industry: landscape architects, designers, growers, retailers, contractors, maintenance personnel, suppliers, and educators.
Presenting timely and research-based information relevant for designing, building, maintaining, and producing plants for urban landscapes in the arid Southwest.
