Hello CEDs and Specialists,

For the past year, a diverse working group<https://live-azs-communityengagement.pantheonsite.io/sites/default/files/2022-05/Carnegie%20Working%20Group%20Members%202022.03.pdf> has been leading an initiative to advance the University's community engagement efforts and receive the Carnegie Foundation's Elective Classification for Community Engagement<https://carnegieelectiveclassifications.org/the-2024-elective-classification-for-community-engagement/>. This classification would formally recognize the impressive range of community engagement projects across the University and provide a comprehensive picture of that engagement to stakeholders throughout Arizona, the nation and the world.

Contribute to the application process

The application process is underway and the working group is conducting a self-study to gather information about community-engaged teaching, research, outreach and service initiatives at the University.

We need your help! We are asking faculty, staff, designated campus colleagues and students involved in community-engaged projects to complete this webform<https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_54qiaeBsMXYCdo2> by Oct. 1. It should take no more than five minutes of your time and can be completed by someone else on your behalf.

We are asking for a brief description of YOUR community engagement projects, whether you are collaborating with a community partner on a course you are teaching, offering a community-based internship, helping your unit with a community service project, or participating in any number of other forms of community engagement.

Sharing your community-engaged work

Understanding the breadth and depth of our community engagement will help us to develop more effective and equitable practices and recognize individuals and programs across the University who make a difference in our communities.

You can find more information about this initiative in this story on UA at Work<https://uaatwork.arizona.edu/lqp/cataloging-community-engagement-qa-about-efforts-secure-formal-recognition-universitys> or on the University's Community Engagement website<https://communityengagement.arizona.edu/>.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have or you can email communityengagement at arizona.edu<mailto:CommunityEngagement at arizona.edu>. Please don't hesitate to reach out.

Acknowledgment: This initiative is facilitated by the University Planning Office<https://universitysecretary.arizona.edu/university-planning> and the Office of Government and Community Relations<http://gcr.arizona.edu/>.
