Message from Arizona 4-H Program Director
Happy Summer!
I write to you today with so many points of pride, and the need to thank each of you for your commitment to creating #opportunity4all Arizona youth. In 4-H year 2020-2021, which is the enrollment year running from October 2020 through September 2021, we saw the largest number of 4-H youth that we have had in at least a decade, landing at 6,000 4-H club enrolled youth. This is a 20% growth change in the past four years. In comparison to Arizona 4-H's enrollment levels from last year, it appears we are again on track to grow again this enrollment year. An increase in enrollment at this point in the year can mean two different things: we have higher 4-H engagement earlier in the year and-or we have even more youth enrolled in our program. Either way, it is a reflection of the commitment of each of you in making great opportunities happen for youth, and that makes me proud of each of you.
I understand that you need the resources to bring these great opportunities to 4-H youth, and that for us to grow we must do two things: provide more resources to you and recruit more volunteers. In partnership with the Arizona 4-H Youth Foundation, and their donors, we have:
- covered the costs of Finger Print Background checks and we are in year 2 of this 6 year pilot. - hired a State Curriculum Development Specialist, who is working on the establishment of
recommended project resources that will be available on our website for our 120 project this
Fall.
- hired a State Shooting Sports Coordinator to ensure capacity development of our Shooting
Sports programs at the county-level, including certification courses, etc.
These efforts are aimed at increasing investments in you through improved resources and better processes. We also have new team members, who I will introduce below. I hope you will join me in welcoming our new team members.
Additionally, the last time I wrote to you on Arizona Gives Day, and I wanted to share with you that because of your and many other's giving the Arizona 4-H Youth Foundation again nearly doubled their giving level and brought in nearly $25,000!
This past week was Arizona 4-H Summit, we had youth from 12 counties and three tribal nations in attendance! Youth had fun, focused on community change, problem solving, and community service on the University of Arizona campus. Arizona 4-H Summit is kicked off with the Clover Ball, an event that celebrates outstanding 4-H youth, volunteers, professionals, and families. Congratulations to all of the awardees and we will celebrate awardees in next month's newsletter!

Bryan comes to our team from another office at the University of Arizona and brings his varied business, budget, and regulatory/policy experiences in multiple organizations to the team.
Jessica Montgomery (center photo) joins the Arizona Cooperative Extension administration team as the Coordinator of Volunteer Systems and Processes. She replaces Gloria Blumanhourst. She brings experience as a Program Coordinator for the Master Gardener program in Pima County to the role.

Erik is a current Level 1 and 2 trained Arizona 4-H Shooting Sports volunteer and brings a systems approach program growth to the team. This position is new to Arizona 4-H and is an investment from donors to the Arizona 4-H Youth Foundation in making sure Arizona 4-H is training and supporting volunteers, supporting our national championship teams, and ensuring policy compliance.

Looking for Host Families this Summer
Bring the world to your home. Arizona 4-H partners with States' 4-H Exchange to place Japanese youth in 4-H families homes. This year we are looking for at least eleven host families this summer. This program has a decades long history of bringing the world to 4-H families across the United States. While one family hosts a youth, it can be a great opportunity for your entire club. To learn more about the requirements of the program for families and to express interest, visit States (https://t.e2ma.net/click/o0bx1d/s3cj3mp/wugrqk) website. Inquiries for more information can be completed here (https://t.e2ma.net/click/o0bx1d/s3cj3mp/cnhrqk).
