As a followup to last Friday’s email (below) regarding the fall 2021 Provost Investment Fund<https://arizona.infoready4.com/#competitionDetail/1848765> proposal submission process, here is additional information about CALS' submission deadlines and recommendations for developing a successful proposal.
Deadlines:
Draft proposals submitted to CALS BOX folder<https://arizona.app.box.com/folder/146466827463>: 5pm Thursday October 14
Return of draft proposals to PI with comments : 5pm Monday October 18
Final proposal submission by applicant via the UA Competition Space Portal: 5pm October 29.
Attached is the presentation from the Provost Investment Fund information webinar and the Fall 2021 PIF program guidelines. A list of proposals funded in Spring 2021 is HERE.<https://provost.arizona.edu/content/spring-2021-pif-report>
Funding Areas and Recommendations
Priority funding areas for fall 2021:
* Increasing students’ success, graduation, and retention, especially for groups underrepresented within the relevant disciplines.
* Promoting growth and opportunities to generate new revenues for the institution.
* Expanding student experiential learning.
* Enhancing research capacity.
* Promoting diversity and inclusivity.
PIF proposal reviewers emphasized the following points:
* Alignment of proposals with university and/or college strategic directions must be more than superficial. Merely mentioning the relevant UA strategic pillars is not a winning strategy.
* The sustainability plan must clearly indicate how this program/entity will be supported beyond the PIF funding period. PIF projects are intended to kickstart sustained activities with long term impact at the university, college and/or unit level.
* Although research related proposals that enhance research capacity will be considered, support to launch and develop defined research projects, equipment requests, support for research workshops, etc should be submitted to one of several i<https://research.arizona.edu/development/find-funding/internal-funding>nternal RII funding mechanisms. <https://research.arizona.edu/development/find-funding/internal-funding> Contact Parker Antin if you have questions about which program (PIF vs. RII) is most appropriate for your proposal.
We will be pleased to work with you to develop a competitive PIF proposal.

Email sent 9/24/2021:
The 2021 Provost Investment Fund<https://provost.arizona.edu/provost-investment-fund> (PIF) is now accepting applications. The following process has been established to organize the necessary division-level approvals.
1. Per PIF requirements, unit heads or CEDs must approve all draft applications.
2. Once approved by the unit head or CED, place the draft application in the 2021 Provost Investment Fund folder in Box: https://arizona.app.box.com/folder/146466827463
3. Submitted draft applications will be reviewed by applicable mission leaders (Mike Staten, Parker Antin, Ed Martin, Mitch McClaran). They will look to strengthen the applications, coordinate similar applications, and identify synergies between complementary applications.
4. Once the relevant mission leaders approve, they will be reviewed/endorsed by VP Burgess and returned to the applicant by or before October 18.
5. Applicants are then responsible to submit the final applications through the official UA Competition Space<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=0deac969ba3e2a8c5c7e54f3f6a06cfe6f1ba457cea6abee9268839212f057fd067c41a29470d89192555108bc1ce1b2769f030105db85e0> application. Applications are due in Competition Space by October 29 at 5pm. Applications not entered into Competition Space by the deadline will not be reviewed by the Provost.
If you have questions about the content of a proposal, please speak with your unit head or the applicable mission leaders. If you have technical questions about the Box application, please contact Brian Berrellez<mailto:Brian%20Berrellez%20%3cbberrell at arizona.edu%3e>.
Best of luck on a successful PIF application!
