MEMORANDUM

May 13, 2021

TO: Cooperative Extension Directors and Administrators
                  (1862, 1890, and 1994 Land-grant Institutions)
CC: EDA Team

SUBJECT: Human Resource Capacity – Respond by 7/31/2021

FROM: Chris Watkins, ECOP Chair, Cornell University

As we work together to enhance our advocacy efforts at the national level, both in our messaging and in our partnerships, being able to share the power of Cooperative Extension is critically important. In order to better understand the human resource capacity of the Cooperative Extension System, we would like to work with you to gather data on the total number of paid Extension staff, and the total number of Extension volunteers across the nation. This data has not been gathered for many years, and we are at times asked to describe the number of people that support the Land-grant University Extension Mission. The ECOP National Office will track responses and only use the data gathered as a national aggregate.

A simple form has been designed to identify:

· The total number of Extension mission personnel, regardless of position, FTE, percentage of appointment, or funding source, as of January 1, 2021. We understand that these data can be difficult to obtain and expect that rough estimates may be necessary. Providing the number of FTEs as of the same date is optional.

· The estimated number of volunteers "Pre-COVID" (for the last year for which you have with complete data before COVID-19). Examples of the number of volunteers might include Master Gardner, Master Health Volunteers, 4-H Volunteers, and Advisory Councils. We understand that there will be duplication with the numbers, as individual volunteers may be participating in one or more volunteer opportunities.

Once this information is gathered, go to https://form.jotform.com/211155708383960 to submit, or simply reply to this message.

Please contact Caroline Henney, Executive Director, Cooperative Extension System/ECOP, carolinecrocoll at extension.org<mailto:carolinecrocoll at extension.org>, 202-478-6029, who is ready to address any questions you may have. Completion by close of business on Friday, July 30, 2021, is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Chris

Best regards,
Caroline
