Unit Heads & EAT,
With the recent stoppage of search and screen (S/S) procedures in the past two months, one can easily understand how confusion might develop in the process of a S/S that has been stopped temporarily. This has been a frustration for many S/S committees.
We have been submitting waivers to the Provost requesting authorization to start or resume S/S operations in many cases. Once a S/S is open and operating again, it is goes back to the committee to decide when to start the interview process, depending on the position and the nature of the pool of candidates.
I often have conversations with unit heads and/or S/S committee chairs on the selection of candidates to interview or logistics (e.g. funding and interview schedules are indeed important), and I am sure the Associate Directors do as well. The decision to initiate interviews resides at the unit level with the S/S committee. Communicating progress on these procedures to the Extension administration is helpful and much appreciated.
For the positions we do have open, please encourage the S/S committees to move forward in good order and advance the process.
If there are any questions, please let us know.
Best regards,
Jeff
