5 Things to Consider with a Pass/Fail (P/F) Option
General Advisors, CALS Career & Academic Services
Not sure how the University's Revised Academic Grading and Eligibility Policies<https://t.e2ma.net/click/vkkmmc/3el5vzf/n2onpr> might apply to you? This week, the general advising team<https://t.e2ma.net/click/vkkmmc/3el5vzf/3upnpr> in CALS Career & Academic Services will highlight questions and points you should consider for P/F, Course Withdrawal, and GRO.
1. Are you considering a graduate or professional program?

  * The institution or program you're applying to may require specific letter grades for courses. Make sure you're reviewing those requirements.
  * The Registrar’s Office will be placing a note on your transcript under the classes you're taking in Spring 2020 about the extraordinary nature of the grading basis. Updated information is available on the Registrar’s Office website<https://t.e2ma.net/click/vkkmmc/3el5vzf/jnqnpr>.

2. Have you consulted with your professor?

  * Talk with your instructor about the grade average that constitutes a P/F. It could be a "D" grade is average but in other instances an instructor may constitute a "C" grade as average.

3. P/F grades are not calculated into your GPA.

  * Be aware if you need graded units for scholarship purposes. A "P" grade may (or may not) fulfill unit requirements for your scholarships. Review the terms and conditions of your specific scholarship(<https://t.e2ma.net/click/vkkmmc/3el5vzf/zfrnpr>s).

4. Are you aiming for Academic Distinction and/or Dean’s List?

  * Academic Distinction and Dean’s List<https://t.e2ma.net/click/vkkmmc/3el5vzf/f8rnpr> are awarded based on graded units and GPA.

5. Have you talked to your Academic Advisor?

  * Your Academic Advisor<https://t.e2ma.net/click/vkkmmc/3el5vzf/v0snpr> can give you insight on if your program is accredited or has specific pre-requisites within major courses that may be affected by P/F.

Visit the Office of the Registrar’s website<https://t.e2ma.net/click/vkkmmc/3el5vzf/bttnpr> for the most up to date information about the P/F option.

Important: Students are strongly encouraged to consult with an academic advisor<https://t.e2ma.net/click/vkkmmc/3el5vzf/rlunpr> prior to changing to P/F grading option. Have questions? Email advising at cals.arizona.edu <mailto:advising at cals.arizona.edu>
