Subject: Wednesday 3/18 pm COV-19 provost and deans discussion update.


  1.  All colleges reported online teaching launch went ahead without the feared for issues.
  2.  Financial aid to students is a big issue in all colleges. Provost stated that the UA has no central resources to help students and that she was thinking of establishing an emergency fund for students for donors to give to. Discussion about colleges going it alone to raise money vs central pool—no resolution. I tried to explain what Jim told us today about the UAF doing it centrally already, the provost wasn’t aware of that.
  3.  Discussion that the financial situation will be “very bad” for UA. Families cannot pay tuition and that Steven Munchin expects 20% unemployment proposed coronavirus rescue package.
  4.  Deans all voiced need for UA to recognize stress on employees and students and that workload vs family balance is critical –no specific action but colleges are thinking about this. We should also.







Remember, we’re working together to provide the best examples we can to “flatten the curve” so our healthcare system is not overwhelmed. If we do everthing right, “nothing will happen” – and that is the whole point.
