I just noticed that the  the “TAKE ACTION NOW”  does not include very clearly that we may not use state resources (including our UA email accounts) or represent ourselves as UA employees when contacting our elected representatives.

I know for certain that Rep Biggs is very aware of this. I don’t know Rep Lesko as well but suspect she’d be equally aware.

I am finding out if it is actually OK to do so in this instance or that the message should make very clear NOT TO USE STATE RESOURCES. The consequences of accidently breaking this state law is not something I can protect any employee from (neither can the president, provost or regents).

Dear Academic College deans,

Please see attached and below a message from our GPSC president, Shilpita Sen, seeking supporters to advocate against the new rules for international student visas requiring at least some in-person classes for Fall 2020.

I encourage you to share these with your graduate students and faculty, in case they may be inclined to support this action personally.

As a campus, we are exploring joining a legal suit against the administration on this issue – more will follow on this in the coming few days.  Separately, we are working to be certain that we can provide at least some in-person classes for all international students (even those who may be at high risk), to be sure  that they will be able to maintain their visas.

Hello Provost Folks,

Thank you for tirelessly working to protect International students and the University. I have been having multiple conversations with other Graduate Organizations especially the MIT Grad Student Council and friends working in the Hill and other organizations.

I worked on a Call to Action and sent it out, but it may not reach a huge number of students before tomorrow. Our Newsletter has only about 2000 subscribers out of which many have graduated or do not check their emails that frequently. Would you please help us reach a larger number of students, faculty and staff members.

I have been calling Congressional Offices since Tuesday and have been asking people from other schools to do the same. I have attached both a pdf version and word version.
