[CED/CD/EAT] Disclosing Conflicts

Annual disclosure of potential Conflicts of Interest (COI) and Conflicts of Commitment (COC), as defined in UArizona policies, is an obligation of every university employee.  These policies may be unknown to employees despite their inclusion in offer letters, and employees may be confused about what should be disclosed.  Unit leaders and supervisors are in the best position to identify potential conflicts and remind their employees to disclose them.  When in doubt, disclose them.  Doing so protects the employee and the institution.

ALVSCE has invested in resources to help if you or your employees have questions.  Jeannie McLain<mailto:mclainj at email.arizona.edu>, Assistant Dean for Faculty Advancement, should be contacted for questions involving faculty.  Leah Chavez<mailto:leahchavez at email.arizona.edu> and Lynda Silvain<mailto:slynda at u.arizona.edu> from the Rates & Review Team are available for questions involving staff.  Leah and Lynda will also add COC and COI to their checklist when reviewing unit business practices.

My hope is that your focus coupled with the support from Jeannie, Leah, and Lynda will boost our disclosures, reduce the risk to employees for non-compliance, and raise awareness of the issue.  Thank you for your leadership.
