Subject: Re: Grapevine inquiry for your response
Bethany,
Thank you for alerting me to this.
Extension and ministration is NOT communicating this message as described in this complaint at all.
We are communicating exactly what HR and every other aspect of the university administration has been saying on this issue. Anyone on external funding, grants and contracts, are not subject to the furlough system.
I am communicating these facts clearly and repeatedly to Extension unit heads. We are following exactly the guidelines provided from HR and the university administration.

Hello Jeff, the anonymous inquiry below was received yesterday via the Grapevine. Can you please provide a response for posting to the web? This is the page where it will be posted: https://compass.arizona.edu/grapevine
We are being told by leadership in Cooperative Extension that there is still uncertainty about whether or not employees covered 100% by grants are affected by furloughs. At our unit meeting on Friday, April 24, we were told that everyone, including those paid 100% by grants, should plan to take furlough time until further notice. However, the very first question on the FAQs posted on the HR web site states explicitly that there is an exception for "anyone whose position is 100% grant funded." This impacts a large percentage of employees in Extension. Why is leadership in Extension perpetuating a sense of uncertainty about this matter and causing unnecessary anxiety over this issue when the question has been asked and answered? There are certainly unknowns and uncertainties, but when there is a clear answer, let's share it and move on.
Thank you,
Bethany
