Dear Extension Faculty and Directors,

 

CALS Faculty Council will have a meeting on March 2, 2017 with Associate
Dean Staten.  There are several topics we will be discussing with him, some
listed below.  

 

1.            Evaluating instructional quality. Where do we stand in
developing and using reliable tools?

2.            Methods for determining FTE in instruction. How will
non-classroom activities be included in FTE calculation? (This general topic
will be addressed by the Cardon Fellows in spring 2017.) 

3.            Workload guidance rules regarding simultaneous presentation of
on-line and in-person sections of the same course. 

4.            Professional progression and recognition of POPs. Is CALS
committed to tenure eligibility for these faculty?

5.            Clarification of decision making processes in CALS that are
used to distribute funds generated from summer or inter-session instruction
and how this is related to fund distribution from fall and spring semesters.

6.            Faculty access to "Venture Funds." How does the distribution
process work?

7.            Explanation of CALS support available for the development of
on-line courses and for in-person courses as well (e.g., videography,
classroom technology)?

8.            What tools might be used to improve communication between CALS
administration and faculty?

9.            Will there be opportunities Cooperative Extension educational
programs to use D2L?

10.         How are we using county Extension offices to recruit students to
CALS?

11.         Appropriateness of classroom spaces. For example, limited space
suitable for collaborative learning and limited classrooms for courses with
> 90 students.

 

Other topics to be covered are 

 

A.     Developing Best Practices for Unit Head Communications

B.     Communication issues within CALS 

C.      Issues and concerns with faculty Annual Performance Reviews.
