Sorry it took so long to get back to you on this. Let me add to Ed’s responses to some of the questions.

 

1.      The front and back covers are full color, thick card stock (not hardback) and glossy. I have attached images of the California Manual front and back covers in case you haven’t seen them. 

2.      For publishing purposes you should shoot for 600 DPI.

3.      The colors bleed all the way to the edge. There shouldn’t be a border.

4.      The header font we are using in the book is Franklin Gothic Medium, but if the design calls for another font, we’re not opposed to that. It doesn’t necessarily have to match if it blends better with the design.

5.      The spine will be about 1.25 inches, a little thinner than the California Manual because we have smaller margins on the page and should therefore have fewer pages. Contestants can design a spine or leave that to us based on the cover they design. So I guess we’re saying it’s not a requirement to design the spine.

6.      Assume the front and back covers will have the same text and logo elements as the California cover. The back cover design should leave some space for text that we will develop. See the back cover attached and plan on about the same amount of text. The Cooperative Extension logo below, or a reasonable facsimile will be on the front cover. And will need to have the ISBN number and barcode similar to what you see on the California book.

                                                                         



 

As Ed mentioned, we are modeling what we’re doing after the California manual, but we also want to be distinct. Hence the soothing blue color we are using inside instead of green. There are two shades of blue we’re using, a dark blue and a light blue. The RGB numbers for the dark blue are Red 0, Green 51, Blue 102 (these are the official RGB numbers for the dark blue on the UA logo). The light blue RGB numbers are Red 215, Green 235, Blue 255.
