Director's Report - Jeff


  *   Hiring Plan Update
List was sent to the Provost's office in June.  Approved in October.  More on the list than we can support in reality.  Jim Sprinkle has created an opening that wasn't on the hiring plan.
Several hires from FY15 still on queue


  *   MAC Field Day
Great job on short time frame - approximately 6 weeks to plan.  Over 2000 people. Victor Jimenez' hard work is appreciated.


  *   Web Analytics - Dominic Rodriguez
Weekly update on website activity.  What are people looking for on the web?  Working on highlighting publications.  Working on county level data.


  *   FCHS Assoc. Director interviews - Monday, November 30
Patty Merk and Darcy Dixon interview and seminars.  Please send in candidate evaluation input.
Seminars can be watched live or can be viewed afterwards.  Links have been announced.  Evaluation forms will be available on line.


  *   4HYD Committee
Position description and posting in progress.  Internal search.  Interviews in 2016 for permanent director.  Trent Teegerstrom is chairing search and screen committee.


  *   Paul Brown
o   Golf Industry in Phoenix - Economic impact of golf - grant funding through golf tournament
o   Dust mitigation management workshop with NRCS and Weather Service- Casa Grande mid-January
o   Deciduous fruit and nut working group - Jim Walworth and Josh Sherman taking the initial lead
o   In-service training by crop.  County and specialist level - should know where the knowledge holes are.  Need to know where to transfer questions. Crop issues - any ideas let Paul know.  Will bring in outside speakers.
Duarte Diaz, Dairy Specialist and Mike Ottman working on forages in-service training.
o   Kelly Young - Small farming issues. Trent working on state-wide project. Better organize efforts in Extension on small farming

Important for everyone to reach out and contact all the new hires - don't wait for them to contact you.


  *   Cathy Martinez
2 successful events
o   4H State Horse Show - all volunteer led - children from 13 out of 15 counties
o   State 4H shooting certification event - John Whiteside

o   4H communication - first one sent through Trello last Friday.  If you didn't receive invitation to see 4H communications - contact Cathy
Doodle poll for first face-to-face annual meeting sent out. Planning committee being formed.


  *   Trent Teegerstrom
Speaker of House (David Gowan), Senator Begay and Congresswoman Benally came to Tuba City.  The Vet School was discussed and the idea of looking at a fee based certificate program for herd needs.

David Gowan is very supportive of Extension.

  *   Update on the New Faculty Meeting
Patti B.  - December 7-8, 2015.  Marriott Hotel.  2014-2015 22 new people- 14 Agents and 8 Specialists. Will send out latest agenda.


  *   Updates for the December Extension Administrative Retreat
December 8 3:30 - 5:00 Directors and EAT
December 9 8:00 - 5:00 Directors, Department Heads and EAT
December 10 8:00 - 10:30 Directors followed by EAT at 10:30
Draft agenda to follow.
Ed Martin is looking for agenda items for the Directors Thursday morning meeting.
