Quarterly All Available Funds

Colleagues,

On August 2, 2021, I shared with you a commitment to be financially transparent<https://compass.arizona.edu/alvsce-finances>.  Since then, business officers have made budget presentations to faculty and staff, a business glossary has been posted and updated, the Provost's All Funds Multi-Year presentations for CALS, Extension, and Experiment Station have been posted, and feedback from shared governance groups has been sought to improve transparency.  We have also completely rebuilt the Quarterly All Available Funds with the primary goal to make them easier to understand.

Quarterly all funds reports have been an important instrument of transparency since they began in 2013.  They offer unit leadership the chance to prioritize their commitments and align unit resources with their plans.  A snapshot of quarter 3 (Q3) for each unit is posted here<https://compass.arizona.edu/report/administration/all-funds-snaps>.  A detailed financial report<https://arizona.box.com/cals-quarterly-all-funds> for Q3 will be accessible on Monday.

Some may wonder where the detailed reports for Q2 are.  I waived the Q2 report this year because the Provost's annual budget submission was occurring at the same time.  The Omicron Covid-19 surge was still active and our business offices were struggling to meet the institutional deadlines.  I did not want to miss the compulsory deadlines by also requiring Q2 reports.  If you're interested in what your unit submitted to the Provost, just ask your unit business officer.

As I said in August, finances in higher education are complex, and communicating the complex is not easy.  There will undoubtedly be questions when you look at these reports.  Websites and presentations are not the outcome in themselves, but an invitation for sincere and open discussions with your unit leader and business officer.

Q4 All Available Funds Snapshots will be posted on August 26, after the fiscal year has fully closed.
