Colleagues,
On May 12 Provost Folks required deans and VPs to submit a general and merit adjustment process for their college or division. The ALVSCE proposal was approved on May 14. ALVSCE faculty and staff have exhibited tremendous sacrifice, resilience, and grit over the last two years. There was unanimous support from the Executive Council, unit and shared governance leaders to create a merit program, within the Provost's rules and HR guidelines, that did as much as possible to recognize everyone within the Division.
The University is providing no financial support for these salary adjustments. This plan will place financial pressure on CALS, Cooperative Extension, and the Experiment Station, but each organization has a history of mission expansion and revenue growth, and many units have cash balances. In essence, we are investing in ourselves.
The tenets of the ALVSCE merit plan (Salary Increase Program Plan):
* Effective July 1, 2021 (August 16 if the recipient is on an academic appointment)
* Faculty, staff, and postdocs who are meeting expectations will receive a 3.5% general adjustment
* Unit heads can select up to 30% of their faculty and staff to receive an additional 1.5% merit adjustment (total of 5% including the general adjustment). Merit decisions will use the ALVSCE Employee Merit Process<https://compass.arizona.edu/dbs/policies/compensation-adjustments>.
* Merit adjustments must be proportional to the faculty, staff, and postdoc headcounts in the unit.
* Adjustments are based on and added to the employee's base salary.
* Current funding for each employee's salary will proportionally fund the general and merit adjustments
* Mission leaders on Executive Council will review the unit selections for merit as a holistic second review for fairness.
* Once the Provost has approved the submission, unit heads will notify faculty and staff who will receive merit increases.
* The Graduate College is working on separate salary adjustment guidance for graduate students.
