[Agvisors] Changes in scholarships for incoming first-year main campus students

Hi Agvisors,
I hope you're able to breathe after the craziness of graduation and before orientations begin to pick up!

I am reaching out to give you some updates that Enrollment Management (EM) has given the recruitment teams across campus. As some of you are aware, the scholarships for both in-state and out-of-state are changing for first-year main campus students, beginning fall 2025. **This has no affect on those entering for fall 2024, so if your students at orientation ask, they are NOT affected by these changes.

Some key highlights from the slide deck above:
**Note - there has been no reference to transfer scholarships at this time.

In-state changes:

  *   Scholarships for the 3.899 GPA and below are NOT affected.
     *   3.90-3.999 have dropped from $10,000 to $8,000
     *   4.0 has dropped from $12,500 to $11,000
Out-of-state changes:

  *   Scholarships for 3.749 GPA and below are NOT affected.
     *   3.75-3.899 have dropped from $20,000 to $16,000
     *   3.90-3.999 have dropped from $30,000 to $20,000
     *   4.0 have dropped from $32,000 to $20,000
     *   3.0-3.249 has slightly increased from $2000 to $4000
In addition, National Merit Finalists, National Recognition Scholars, and National Merit Semifinalists are changing drastically.

Students no longer have a probationary period to bring back their college GPAs for merit aid. Each year, students need to have met the 3.0 GPA threshold and 30 UA units per calendar year. This is returning to policies prior to covid.

Over the next few months, EM will be evaluating the scholarships and may implement things like "apply by" dates for merit awards and will continue to evaluate as the application rolls out starting July 1 for fall 2025. If there are any changes, I will let you know as soon as I can.

These are changes that we have no control over, yet we anticipate these changes to make quite a significant impact on our recruitment strategy and numbers, as well as retention and graduation. EM is anticipating a 25% decrease in our first-year CALES recruitment numbers and a significant decline in retention and graduation rates. As we strategize what we do moving forward (from a recruitment and marketing standpoint), I want to encourage that we continue open dialogue to help create not only transparency but also a solid plan for each of your units. Though the first thought might be to pivot and try to increase our enrollments, I want to work together to figure out what really makes sense.
