Subject: Provisionally offered General Education courses

Dear colleagues,

After working closely with the University-wide General Education Committee (UWGEC), the Office of General Education, Curricular Affairs, and the Registrar, I am pleased to announce that some General Education courses will be provisionally offered in Summer and Fall 2022.

This development ensures that students will be able to fulfill their General Education requirements in both programs as UWGEC continues its critical work of reviewing course proposals for the new program.

What this development means:


  *   Courses that have been nominated by the academic Dean of their college and that have been formally submitted to the University-Wide General Education Committee by the approved deadline, but not yet formally approved by UWGEC, will be offered in Summer and Fall 2022 under provisionally-offered status.
  *   Provisionally offered courses will be offered only through Fall 2022 in this provisional status.
  *   By implementing this approach, we will ensure there are enough seats for students in the new GE program in Summer and Fall 2022 and maintain a thorough course proposal review process.

I also want to remind members that the Office of General Education has made a Course Approval Pipeline Report<https://ge.arizona.edu/news-events/ge-implementation-update> available to administrators and instructors. I encourage you to use this tool if you wish to check the progress of a particular course approval.

An additional email will be sent to Academic Deans listing the affected General Education course proposals. Should you have questions about provisionally approved courses, please reach out to Susan Miller-Cochran, Executive Director of General Education.
