Hi All,
I think Danielle has a great suggestion here. Since a lot of eSMS doesn't allow for customization per advisor and we are all trying to learn from each other and about this how this system works I think a discussion about this would be really useful !

Subject: [Agvisors] 1 hour ahead of appt scheduling in eSMS
Hello Nancy,
This was raised in the Agvisors meeting today Feb. 23 in the chat box and also in Teams chat and in the eSMS onboarding file.
With the transition to eSMS, the window of time a student has to schedule an appointment has been changed to 1 hour prior to the start of the availability. Per Danielle Flink's response to my inquiry on the onboarding document, this is a CALS decision.
Can we change that window of time?
Others likely have their preferences, but I too think 1 hour is too close and if a student is seeking grad planning or other in-depth discussions, we would have little time to prepare for that appointment. This short prep time may require a 2nd appointment which is burdensome for the student and may lead to students not feeling properly served.
I think of our newer advisors and when I was new to the role, this 1 hour does not allow enough time to prepare and feel confident in what I was doing and for those with more experience, I also think this is a small window of time to process the needs of the student we are meeting with at that time.
* May I ask that we as a group open the discussion for the window of time students have ahead of an appointment to schedule in eSMS for CALS advisors?
* Is there a way we can edit this window of time either per advisor or CALS wide?
* Is there rationale to the 1 hour decision that was made? Perhaps, learning more about why 1 hour was selected will help us better understand, should we not be allowed to change it.
Thank you for considering this request.
