Subject: Internships post-Thanksgiving
Dear Colleagues,
You may be wondering - along with internship site supervisors and student interns - if approved in-person internship activities can continue post-Thanksgiving given the directive that all UA classes will finish remotely after the Thanksgiving break: https://covid19.arizona.edu/updates.
For those students who have submitted the Assessment of Recommended COVID-19 Workplace Risk Management Protocols for Credit-bearing Experiential Learning Activities<https://www.registrar.arizona.edu/sites/registrar.arizona.edu/files/forms/2.%20Experiential%20Learning_COVID%20Assessment%206.21.20-fillable%20pdf.pdf> for department review and approval, then in-person internship activities are able to continue past Thanksgiving. This is similar to the protocol that was allowed in late summer, when there were no in-person courses offered but in-person internships were allowed (with the assessment completed and approved).
In practice, I am asking students and site supervisors to have conversations now regarding plans post-Thanksgiving. If the site has the options available for remote activities, it makes a lot of sense to switch the in-person activities to remote activities, especially if the student will travel over the Thanksgiving break. If the site does not have the option for remote activities, and the student or the site supervisor has concerns, I am providing options for alternative assignments for the remainder of the internship credit, as directed by the guidelines<https://www.registrar.arizona.edu/sites/registrar.arizona.edu/files/forms/3.%20Experiential%20Learning_COVID%20Department%20Re-entry%20Guidance%206.21.pdf> established by the University this summer.
As always continue to reach out with your questions and concerns.
Best,
Stephanie - Internship Council Fellow
