Dear UA Faculty, Staff and Students,

As you know, Student Success is not only the first priority in The University of Arizona’s strategic plan, it is our priority each and every day. In an effort to improve our service and effectiveness, we are currently moving towards a new advisement structure to support the undergraduate students who currently work with advisors in the Colleges of Letters Arts & Science (CLAS). In the new structure, the Bachelor of Global Studies will be hosted by the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS), and SBS staff and faculty will advise the students in this major. The Bachelor of General Studies will be hosted by the College of Humanities (COH), and COH staff and faculty advise the students in this major. A new advisement office will be established under the Student Success and Retention Innovation office (SSRI) to serve our UA students who identify as Exploratory Students (outside of the Honors College), as Undecided Major (not in a specific college), Pre-Health or Pre-Law. This team in SSRI will host special expertise at working across multiple Colleges to help students navigate what can be complex academic pathways.

The highly experienced advisement team now within CLAS will largely continue to serve the students they are most familiar with within these new structures. However, with this change, some students may be asked to change advisors following implementation of these changes, and students may need to visit a different office to meet with their advisor.

I welcome any questions you may have about this new structure and the excellent support that we aim to provide to UA students.

Regards, Liesl
