[Agvisors] Excess Units Surcharge

Greetings Agvisors,

Hope the week is going well for all. I met with a student today regarding the "excess unit surcharge" (details below). She has not completed a degree due to multiple factors, but not any that constitutes an exemption.  In her case she is being charged an additional $1,099 this upcoming Fall term and is only enrolled as a part-time student. Plans to graduate by Spring 2020, but will be charged an additional $1,099 next term as well. Registrar's unit referred her to send an appeal explanation to the email listed below.

Have any of you assisted a student with an appeal regarding this?  Thanks in advance for sharing any best practices to the list as it may help the team.  We will discuss further at the Agvisors meeting on Tuesday 8/13 but upfront information is welcomed.

Excess Units Surcharge

Undergraduate students who have accumulated 145 or more units (credit hours) and have not yet completed a degree will be assessed a "per unit" Excess Units Surcharge in addition to tuition and fees for Fall and Spring semesters. A complete explanation of this policy, as well as a list of statutory exemptions, is available through the Arizona Board of Regents<https://public.azregents.edu/Shared%20Documents/Item-03-2006-11-tuition-surcharge.pdf>.
If you are being charged the Surcharge and you think you qualify for an exemption, contact the Registrar's Office at reghelp at email.arizona.edu<mailto:reghelp%40email.arizona.edu> to request a review.
